⚠️TYLENOL & AUTISM—RFK Jr and Trump are wrong—the largest & best study in the world in 2.5 MILLION KIDS—found no increased autism risk with acetaminophen (aka paracetamol, Tylenol) use by the mother during pregnancy. A crude unadjusted analysis found only a preliminary 5% risk, but once you adjust for family by matching using sibling controls (who didn’t get autism), the even tiny 5% risk vaporizes to 0% 📉. (Fun fact: I used to do drug safety epidemiology and have been whistleblower against big pharma when their drugs were dangerous—so I know a few things about drug safety data). Thread 🧵.

Here’s a nice analysis of 2.5M children about Tylenol and autism. The study found a small association between tylenol use in pregnancy and autism, but the association went away in sibling analysis. In sibling analysis you compare children born to the same mother where one child was exposed to Tylenol but not the other. This is a better comparison because genetics are similar between siblings whereas they differ greatly in non siblings from different families. Bottom line: no increased risk of autism with tylenol use in a huge population analysis. jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…

Why do newborns get hepatitis B vaccine? Because 90% of hepatitis B infections in kids become chronic hepatitis. Because chronic hepatitis causes 60% of liver cancers. Because hepatitis B is NOT just sexually transmitted, it’s spread via contact with ANY bodily fluids. 1/

Today the HHS Secretary made an announcement that will cripple the health care system's ability to prepare for the fall respiratory season. The #AAFP will always fight for family medicine and public health.

Here’s the truth: family medicine is broad, flexible and essential. Whether it’s OB, inpatient or procedures—you can do it in family medicine. We’re not falling for the propaganda! Neither should you.

Overall TikTok seems to be a great tool in naloxone education and de-stigmatization efforts, reaching a wide audience in targeted age groups affected by the opioid epidemic.

With harm reductionists + laypersons authoring most videos, there is room for content produced by medical professionals. Though some audiences prefer to gain medical knowledge from medical experts, others may be more receptive to those with lived experiences as seen in this study
