@CHatzaw I’ve met people who were ordained because they wanted a respectable job/to follow in daddy’s footsteps/they knew the Bishop well/couldn’t think what else to do, that kind of thing. I’d hope they don’t make up the majority, though.

having known so many ppl, myself included, who struggle to find a spiritual home or struggle to be ordained, it just makes a mockery of the whole thing... not to mention, GOD.

this reminds me of someone I met who was seeking ordination with a denomination he fundamentally disagreed with b/c it was "the easiest route" due to personal connections + he could "change it from the inside"

@L_Marsh21 @hinsley_revrob I think, in some churches at least, you’d then become part of the “them”, those who are ministered to, rather than part of the “us” who minister.

@hinsley_revrob Robert, I appreciate what you are trying to say, but what I am trying to say here is that it hurts when people see my talents before they see the person. What I want to know is whether - if I wasn't useful at all - would I still be welcome?

This week, I attended the John of the Cross: Carmel, Desire, and Transformation conference at @StMarysIoT. I heard some great papers, and even delivered one of my own, receiving really useful feedback. It was also a real privilege to be able to attend a conference in person!

It was an honour to help organise the Colloquium, and to have the opportunity to give my paper.

Today we held our annual @uoedivinity Postgraduate (PG) Colloquium. Our PG students presented brilliant papers and our Rector @DKAYEMBE gave an inspiring speech about tackling racism @EdinburghUni. Special thanks to @EmmaWildWood1 and @CatholicSara for making it possible.

@VicAnneTurner We did - it came with some kind of qualification we were told never to mention to universities!

In the hope we take it all for granted and don't have the skills to understand it properly to be able to vote for a system that actually benefits society 💁

@ellisamitylight I'm hoping for hybrid - I'm looking forward to attending things in-person, but I've been able to attend many more conferences virtually this year than I otherwise would, so I'd like to see a both/and option!

@taylorholleyman I thought indenting first lines was no longer the done thing, till I came back to Edinburgh and had to start doing it in essays!

@VicAnneTurner I should probably sort myself out with one of those someday.
