@beIovederen I would honestly argue Jaime is the second most honourable character after Ned, and it's why this added scene in the screenshot is so good, because on rewatch once you understand Jaime's character, what initially reads as a vain boast becomes a desperate plea for connection.

i cannot imagine reading asoiaf and reading jaime’s thought-process and still believing he did it because it was his father and himself on the line and just taking ned’s judgment as correct without question lol

Good lord, he WAS selfish. The reason Ned hates him is because he took action against Aerys when it was his own father and his own city on the line, when they were alone. When it was Ned's brother, or the entire nation, and others could kill him after? He did nothing.
