The latest analysis, released Wednesday, shows the net present value of the pipeline is negative $600 million, leaving it worth about $1.2 billion less than the PBO's estimate in December 2020. aptnnews.ca/?p=203930

At Toronto city council's infrastructure and environment committee, @TOenviro's Emily Alfred raises strong concerns re: Ford government's overhaul of blue-box recycling system, says it could lead to more, not less, waste going to the city landfill.

We are also concerned about how environmental “remediation” of parks is used as a reason to forcibly clear encampments. Instead of pitting people in encampments & the environment against each other, the City should work collaboratively to realize the #Right2Housing for all. (2/3)

Toronto is facing a housing crisis that won’t be solved by violent clearings of encampments. We urge the City of Toronto to end the removal of encampments and the unnecessary use of force, and adopt the human rights approach outlined in #APathForward. (1/3) #TOpoli

Op-ed co-authored by TDIN Staff @Diana_C_McNally and @NaheedD: the @cityoftoronto's approach to #encampments is violent, and it doesn't work. We have a better way: #APathForward, and we are calling on @JohnTory to adopt it and end the violence. thestar.com/opinion/contri…

City Council passed a motion to move forward on charging parking lots and other large industrial properties for the stormwater they produce! 🎉 As we experience more flooding and severe storms, we need tools like this to reduce pavement & build more green infrastructure. #TOpoli
Toronto Environmental Alliance (TEA)@TOenviro

Next week, Council will have a chance to support a critical tool to reduce flooding - a stormwater charge. Contact City Council and urge them to stay true to their climate emergency declaration & get moving on a stormwater charge that makes polluters pay: torontoenvironment.org/stormwater_act

“Now is not the time” is a familiar refrain at Toronto City Council. We’re dealing with a climate crisis, a housing crisis, an opioid crisis, growing inequality….but it’s just not a convenient time to act.

As Toronto city council readies to examine a range of revenue tools that could generate much-needed municipal cash, Mayor John Tory insisted Tuesday that now was not the time to hike the land transfer tax on high-value homes. toronto.ctvnews.ca/toronto-counci…

I’m a proud New Democrat, but at my core I’ve always been and will continue to be a climate activist. @bcndp breaking my heart. Our world is in a climate crisis and this is absolutely unacceptable. #ndp

Phase 1 of this strategy must be followed with strong regulations in 2022 that will ban and restrict disposables and shift our city towards reusable alternatives! All levels of government need to act to curb the single-use plastics that are harming our health and environment.

Today, Council also passed 3 additional motions from @m_layton: to commit to lead by example in City-run facilities and to move faster with guidance for businesses on reducing disposables and switching to alternatives to encourage a green reopening and recovery. (2/3)

City Council voted to approve the first phase of the Single-Use Reduction Strategy! This is a good first step, but it’s only the beginning. Thank you to everyone who spoke up to show support and push Council to take bold and swift action! ♻ #TOpoli (1/3)

My goodness!! A powerhouse panel - Kukstemc @EmmayMah for her sharing about knowing the difference between drawing people to you versus orgs who have built in relationships and accountability to equity seeking communities from the ground up. This is so essential in the ENGO space

Toronto's climate emergency declaration included a commitment to apply a climate lens to all major City decisions. A motion from @m_layton passed that reiterates this commitment & directs Staff to develop a methodology for how a strong evidence-based climate lens is applied

Yesterday, City Council voted on the 2021 #TObudget. Thank you to everyone who joined our campaign and called on Council to get back on track with climate emergency commitments and advance a green and just recovery in this year's City Budget. #TOpoli (1/6)
