This would preclude many very talented academics. I first started at £28k and many post-doctoral positions are still no more than £31k. This could encourage universities to raise the academic salaries in response to this, but it is unlikely to happen. What is likely to happen is that universities are going to become even less diverse in thought and practice & miss out on excellent researchers. It is such short-sightedness.

@northernassist Letting people get on an already very delayed train to Bradford FS at Saltaire when it then terminates at Shipley is not at all helpful. Give people the info to make another travel choice! Currently 1+ hour in to a supposedly 10 min journey with 3 kids...
