This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

A bit ironic but the kanna tool now holds similar nostalgia vs just using a planar machine as fountain pen, long form, and other analog. Also arguing for the planar machine is also used for pro-AI.

I picked art as a career because it’s the only thing I was ever good at. But now that I do this professionally my biggest issue I face every day is that I’m no good at drawing lol

@DougTenNapel Watched the whole video and way more convincing and human. Tweets sound terse and judgmental but the talking to camera really humanizes your point. Thanks for sharing.

@theblackvault @FountainCartoon @tupacabra I think plagiarism has been acceptable. We can appreciate Fan Art and stop when we hear cover bands busking on the streets. They also profit without paying royalties. Often even knowingly. It’s like those Fan Artists who post the ‘don’t take pic’ sign above DTIYS Pokemon.

A product based on an idea created by the one who prompted it in the first place. What’s the difference between that, and someone with a brush who creates an idea on canvas from something they saw, heard about, or made up in their head? But instead of a brush, they are using a keyboard. Again, it’s not for everyone… But I would still make the argument that the point you are trying to make, is the exact same thing you’re fighting against. Many artists create brilliant things… But they use the work of others to get the idea in the first place. (Reposted because of an auto correct spelling error.)

I can appreciate a reasoned, reasonable response like this, especially when it’s not littered with condescending, bigoted platitudes like “BRUH! OLD MAN YELLING AT CLOUDS!!! G’SNORT HYUCK!!!” But here’s the problem with this argument: There’s no such thing as an “AI Artist.” You’re either an artist or you’re not. Let’s say you create something and you’re very careful only to use software that operates from licensed material (rare, but theoretically possible)… then you are simply an artist who uses AI. The person he’s defending didn’t create anything. I wish he would.
John Greenewald, Jr.@theblackvault

Well, I, too, am a fan of AI for numerous things, but I also can truly appreciate the HUMAN expertise it takes to create artistic masterpieces using their own hand and a creative medium. I am not an artist, and don't have that skill, so I appreciate those that do. Whether it be cartoons, oil on canvas, or whatever. That said... your response to an artist utilizing AI to create his own work speaks volumes. I have no skin in this fight, and don't take a side with either one of you. What I did notice is how you reacted to the above which more speaks volumes about your own insecurity about the idea of someone using AI vs. what it does about AI being used to create art. You may have made millions smile over the years (decades?) with your work. Good on you, that's awesome. But @tupacabra has reached many times that many with viral AI creations just in past 6 months, gathering a following nearly 3x your own in 5 years than the entire following you have in 16 years. I don't usually do the number of followers comparison, but yes, in this case, it proves my grander point. So, appreciate what it is, and what it isn't. No need to attack others, or attempt to diminish their respective skillset, in the process.

Two things I’m reminded whenever a Direct comes on (from any company)…. 1) I loathe how overproduced everything has become with game dev. I miss those old Bungie ViDocs (which were produced don’t get me wrong) that felt like a look at development rather than a marketing piece.

Stay open and curious about how the world works. Keep observing the world and study fundamentals. Ground yourself in analog mediums: put pen to paper. Explore all tools available to you.
DANN©@DannPetty

You don’t need to create something with AI today or else your career is over. Don’t let the fomo and fear mongers get to you. I think you should try (+ learn) it though, not out of fear, but out of curiosity and advancing your skills as we should always be doing every week.

Quite the flex knowing there are tons of digital shortcuts we’ve been accustomed to. The best way to combat AI if that’s the hill you’re going to die on is go analog. I’m no animator and also don’t have this kind of patience.

Part of the reason I’m still on here is that Japanese Twitter Artists still post. They seem largely unaffected as Western artists, way less doomerism and spiraling. Or they hide it better. Same goes for Japanese IG.
Gearoid Reidy リーディー・ガロウド@GearoidReidy

Whatever about these absolute stats, Japan has long been Twitter’s second-largest market. It’s quite hilarious how, with all the ink spilled on the changes since Elon took over, no one has paid any attention to J-Twitter, which largely ticks over much the same as it did before.
