As spring emerges the #NewForest comes alive with bird song & activity 🐦🎶 It's a Special Protection Area for Birds partly due to the species of #GroundNestingBirds breeding here. Please support these special birds by staying on the main tracks & keeping dogs there too🙏

Our rangers joined local police and partners this week to help tackle fly-tipping in the #NewForest. The joint operation in Lyndhurst stopped 35 vehicles carrying waste. You can check anyone taking away waste is registered to do so on the Environment Agency website.

One of the UK's rarest insects - the Green Forest Hoverfly - has been found in record numbers in the #NewForest according to new research. Working closely with survey volunteers we've been improving habitats this species needs to breed. 📷 Bob Chapman bit.ly/467a6am

If you look carefully there are some signs of spring emerging in the #newforest 💚 One of our rangers spotted these newts in a track side puddle. In winter newts leave ponds to hibernate & stay on dry land. As spring approaches they become active & return to ponds to breed.

The #fieldfare (Turdus pilaris) is a large member of the thrush family, identified by its blue-grey head with a yellow beak, brown-grey wings & a speckled breast. It's a winter visitor from northern Europe that feeds on berries and fallen fruit.🐦 #WildlifeWednesday #NewForest

Animals can be on or close to the edges of #NewForest roads at anytime. Last year saw an rise in the number of accidents involving New Forest Commoners' animals. Please take extra care when driving on Forest roads and expect animals to appear suddenly. 🙏 #passwideandslow

With trees stripped bare of leaves and the foliage died back, spotting birds in the forest is much easier. Robins are here all year round, but look out too for redwings, stonechats and the orange hues of the brambling. What birds have you spotted on your visit to the New Forest?
