I’ll disagree with you on this as I think it’s a bit pointless to draw such a line as firearms regularly fall on both sides of that line. Also of not often civilian firearms development often feeds into the military aspect of it. On top of that using the same hypothetical scenario as presented before for the term “weapon of war” the factor that would make or not make a rifle fit for service could be as simple as a hand guard or optic. For instance the set up for an AR platform rifle I would like to run, a red dot in front of a magnifier than can be canted 90 degrees with a M16 style stock and retro triangular hand guard would more than likely rejected for general service due to a combination of factors including the sights not being robust enough to the stock not being modular enough. Such things are very subjective when it comes to small arms and military procurement

@OUf5VVC5nZiSoJs This is a good example. It’s a .30-06 round I fired out of my M1, it has some case lube on it for reloading but it’s a good example of the soot that can get onto cartridges after firing

@OUf5VVC5nZiSoJs I don’t know about ordnance, but small arms casing are 100% this covered in soot and can even look more caked in it depending on the specific weapon

And on another note about the strangeness of the term “weapons of war”, would this political and hypothetical term encompass not just small arms, but other weapons and weapons systems? Wouldn’t it encompass things like 155mm howitzers, MLRS batteries, SAM sites, air superiority and strike aircraft, and warships? They all are weapons and weapons systems that are used to fight wars.

Random question for those in Japan, what do you think of the game Battlefield 1? I love it and, while in hindsight there were plenty of historical accuracy issues with the game, find it fun to play.

@SnekuSnafuSnaku I would recommend it, get one from RTI while they have good condition carbines in stock at good prices. A lot of people talk shit about Carcano’s, but a lot of those same people don’t lube their Carcano’s and use exclusively steel clips

I also this past Saturday picked this up for $25 USD. While she obviously is not in good shape, she could be worse. It’s a Belgian .22 rolling block. The bore is good, but asides from that she needs a stock, stock hardware, a new rear action screw, and a new stock.
