PRESS RELEASE SOKOTO STATE GOVERNMENT APPROVES PURCHASE OF MOTORCYCLES FOR DISTRIBUTION TO CIVIL SERVANTS AT A SUBSIDISED RATE Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has approved the purchase of motorcycles for distribution to civil servants at a 35% subsidy. He announced this at the 2026 May Day celebration held at Giginya Memorial Stadium, Sokoto. Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu said this was in response to a request made by the state chapter of the NLC in that regard. The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, enumerated various gestures extended to civil servants in the state. He said this was aimed at reinvigorating the civil service with a view to creating a productive, motivated, and dignified workforce. While thanking the civil servants for their continued support for his administration, the Governor enjoined them to be punctual and dedicated to their duties. In an address, the Head of Service, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmad, expressed satisfaction with the cordial relationship between the state government and the NLC, which he said has contributed to ensuring labour harmony. Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmad thanked the state government for genuinely showing its support for civil servants by restoring many incentives that were hitherto stopped. In a welcome address, the State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Abdullahi Jungul, expressed appreciation to the state government for its various support to civil servants since its assumption of office. Comrade Jungul assured the government of the continued support of civil servants in achieving more successes. He however, appealed to the government to look into the possibility of increasing the monthly pensions of those who retired years ago, adding that some of them are still receiving ₦4,000 or ₦5,000 as monthly pensions. The State NLC Chairman also stressed the need to start allocating the houses purchased by the state government from the Federal Government in the Kwannawa area to prevent them from deteriorating. The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of an award of appreciation to Governor Ahmed Aliyu Governor by the NLC. PRESS RELEASE SOKOTO DEPUTY GOVERNOR INSPECTS PROJECTS WORTH BILLIONS OF NAIRA BEING EXECUTED BY AHMED ALIYU’S ADMINISTRATION IN GADA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Gobir, has inspected projects worth billions of naira being executed by the state government in Gada Local Government Area. The projects include the 21.8-kilometre Kaffe–Kaddi Sabon Gari Road, the 9.5-kilometre Gada–Ila–Tabani Road, and the Gada Agro Logistics Centre. Others are the General Hospital and the Gada Central Jumu'at Mosque. Briefing the Deputy Governor, the Special Adviser on Rural Roads, Malami Mohammed Galadanci, said the Kaffe–Kaddi Sabon Gari Road was awarded to M/S Gerawa Global Engineering Nigeria Limited at a cost of over ₦5.1 billion. He said the road links eight towns, including Kaffe, Gidan Bawa, Gidan Gyado, Gidan Hashimu, Karangiya, Tsitse, Kaddi Arawa, and Kaddi Sabon Gari. The Special adviser added that the project has so far reached 52% completion. Commenting, the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Gobir, expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of the work. He said the project will go a long way in boosting economic activities across the area, as it is endowed with fadama land. The Deputy Governor assured that all observations noted in the construction work would be addressed accordingly. In their separate responses, the village heads of Kaddi Arawa, Kaddi Sabon Gari, and Gidan Hashimu described the project as a dream come true. They said the lack of roads had been a major challenge faced by the communities for over 50 years. According to them, farmers spend hours transporting their produce to Gada town due to the sandy and muddy nature of the area. The village heads, therefore, expressed their gratitude to Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for awarding the contract. At the Gada–Ila–Tabani Road, the Special Adviser, Malami Galadanci, said the project was awarded to Anchor Nuel Resources Limited at a cost of ₦2.8 billion. He said the project has reached 62% completion and will be tarred. Responding, the Deputy Governor commended the construction firm for adhering to the contractual agreement in executing the project. The Deputy Governor also visited the Gada Agro Logistics Centre under construction and was taken round by the Special Adviser, Malami Mohammed Galadanci. The Special Adviser said the project was initiated to streamline the agricultural supply chain and reduce post-harvest losses. He added that it will enhance market efficiency, reduce waste, and support the commercialization of farming activities in the area. The facility will include sections for onions, garlic, grains, livestock, and an abattoir. The Deputy Governor also visited the Gada General Hospital, which has been completely renovated along with staff quarters. Briefing the Deputy Governor, the Chairman of the area, Alhaji Zayyanu Gada, said the renovation is nearing completion. He added that several inspection visits were carried personally by him during the exercise and expressed satisfaction with the quality of work executed. Alhaji Zayyanu Gada thanked the state government for executing various development projects within the area. The Deputy Governor also visited the Gada Central Jumu'at Mosque, where he expressed satisfaction with the level of work. SOKOTO SIGNS LANDMARK MoU WITH KEDCO TO BOOST POWER SUPPLY The Sokoto State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) aimed at improving electricity supply across Sokoto State. This significant development was disclosed by the Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammad Gobir, who represented Sokoto State Governor at the crucial Kaduna Electric Energy Summit currently taking place in London, United Kingdom. According to the Deputy Governor, the agreement form part of the deliberate efforts of the Governor Aliyu-led administration to achieve the much-desired improvement in electricity supply to the people of Sokoto State. The initiative is expected to boost socio-economic activities, attract investment, and enhance the living standard of the people of Sokoto State. The summit brought together top government officials, energy experts, and relevant stakeholders to explore strategic investment opportunities within the Kaduna Electric franchise area and chart a new course for improved power distribution in the region. The partnership with KEDCO is expected to open a new chapter in the state’s electricity sector, in line with the provisions of the 2023 Electricity Act, which seeks to enhance private sector participation and expand access to electricity. PRESS RELEASE Sokoto State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that no citizen of the state is denied access to quality healthcare due to a lack of facilities or trained personnel. Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto gave the assurance at the opening ceremony of the 113th meeting of Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of Teaching Hospitals, Medical Centres, and Specialist Hospitals, held at Sokoto Guest Inn. Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu stated that, based on this, the health sector remains a critical component of his administration's Nine-Point Smart Agenda. The Governor also said that the state government has strengthened its relationship with key institutions by establishing a Memorandum of Understanding that allows consultants and senior registrars to attend to patients at the specialist hospital. He enumerated various efforts made by the state government to improve the healthcare system in the state. The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, called on all Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors attending the meeting to continue to uphold high standards of professionalism and ethics in their respective institutions. In his address, the Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, represented by Dr. Isola Adeboke, said the Federal Ministry of Health is committed to improving health institutions through funding and human resource development to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare services. PRESS RELEASE GOVERNOR AHMED ALIYU SOKOTO SAYS EQUIPPING MEDIA INSTITUTIONS IS ESSENTIAL FOR EFFECTIVE GOVERNANCE Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has said that equipping media institutions is essential for effective governance. He stated this at the 47th anniversary of Rima Radio, 24 years of Rima Television, and 22 years of Rima FM, held at the premises of the Sokoto State Media Corporation. Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu said that in furtherance of this objective, his administration has made significant investments in state-owned media organisations. These include the provision of two digital transmitters for Rima FM, as well as modern studio equipment for Rima Radio and Rima Television. According to him, the effort is aimed at improving broadcast quality and expanding coverage across the state. The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, commended the state media organisations for their commitment and dedication to projecting government programmes and policies. In his remarks, the Senator representing Sokoto Central, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, represented by the State Commissioner for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship, Alhaji Abba Mu’alledi, pledged to continue to render support for the development of the corporation. The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Sambo Bello Danchadi, acknowledged the commitment of Governor Ahmed Aliyu towards modernising broadcast infrastructure. Alhaji Sambo Bello praised the efforts of the corporation, especially in the live coverage of government activities, with a view to keeping the people abreast of government programmes. Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has commended the Nigerian Army for the total renovation of Magajin Rafi Model Primary School, Tudun Wada, Sokoto. He made the commendation during the handing over of the school, which was renovated under the Chief of Army Staff Civil–Military Intervention Project. The Governor said such a gesture would go a long way in reinforcing cooperation between the military and host communities across the country. Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, the Governor said the project aligned with the State’s Education Reform Agenda. He acknowledged the foresight of the facilitator of the project and an old boy of the school, Major General Aliyu Idris. Earlier, the Headmaster of the school, Kabiru Yusuf, described the renovation as a major turning point, adding that the school had for years struggled with dilapidated classrooms and a poor learning atmosphere. He said that with the renovation, the level of enrolment and learning enthusiasm had already begun to improve. In an address, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Wahid Shaibu, noted that the initiative reflects the Army’s evolving doctrine of people-centred security. Represented by the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgba Koughna, the Chief of Army Staff said the strength of the Army lies not only in firepower, but in the trust and cooperation of the people. Commenting, the facilitator of the project and an old boy of the school, Major General Aliyu Idris, said the project was executed in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s directive for commanders to leave lasting legacies in their areas of responsibility. The Sokoto State Government is committed to bringing development in all facets of governance. The State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, stated this at an appreciation meeting with the initial Technical Working Committee of the 9-Point Agenda, held at the conference hall of the Deputy Governor’s Office. Alhaji Idris Gobir said that, in an effort to realise the set objectives, the state government came up with the Agenda. He expressed appreciation to the committee for its tireless efforts in drafting the Agenda at the initial stage. The Deputy Governor, who is also the Chairman of the Steering Committee for the 9-Point Agenda, said this has helped in providing the government with clear direction for its activities. In a welcome address, the Vice Chairman of the Committee and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Abubakar Muhammad Zayyana, said the committee made frantic efforts to come up with thematic areas for the 9-Point Agenda. Dr Abubakar Zayyana appreciated members of the committee for bringing their knowledge and wealth of experience to bear during the exercise. In a vote of thanks, one of the members of the committee, Professor Abubakar Abdullahi, thanked the state government for finding them worthy to serve on the committee. Professor Abubakar Abdullahi also acknowledged the support the committee enjoyed from the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning during its assignment. The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Sifawa, and the Chief of Staff, Government House, Alhaji Aminu Haliru Dikko, who are both co-chairmen, as well as Permanent Secretaries of the relevant ministries. A high-powered delegation led by the Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, today condoled the Kano State House of Assembly over the recent death of two of its members. In his condolence message on behalf of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the Deputy Governor described the deaths as not only a loss to the families of the deceased but also to the House and the entire Kano State. He prayed that Allah grant the deceased eternal rest and give their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. Responding, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore, thanked the delegation for the visit and prayed that Allah reward them abundantly. The delegation also visited the Kano State Government House for the same condolence, where they were received by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim. The Deputy Governor further condoled the family of a Judge of the Federal High Court in Sokoto over the demise of his mother. Sokoto State indigenes shortlisted for Army recruitment have been urged to be disciplined and loyal throughout the training exercise. Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto made the appeal while addressing the candidates at Giginya Barracks, Sokoto. Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu said this would enable them to emerge victorious at the end of the exercise. He stressed the need for them to bear in mind that the profession they have voluntarily chosen requires patriotism and sacrifice in the struggle to defend the territorial integrity of the nation. He used the opportunity to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving massive Army recruitment nationwide. According to him, this would go a long way in strengthening the nation’s Army and helping to address the challenges of insecurity facing the country. Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, the Governor announced that the state government has shouldered the responsibility of transporting the candidates to their respective training camps in Zaria, Osogbo, Abakaliki, and Jaji. He also announced the donation of ₦30,000 to each candidate as pocket money. The Deputy Governor was accompanied on the visit by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Sifawa; Special Adviser on Establishment Matters, Alhaji Garba Bello Kebbe; and the Permanent Secretary, Careers and Special Services, Alhaji Aminu Bello.
