This is in the tradition of President Tsai. When Taiwanese de jure independence became untenable for the DPP they parasitically took over Status Quo by declaring it equivalent to Taiwanese independence.
Unfortunately, they have not made all the geopolitical forces that made de jure independence go away. They just made the Status Quo subject to the full brunt of it.
