@cosmonautscarf @MattZeitlin Railways are under public ownership now, and the plans for the return to public ownership were made by the Tories after COVID. Reform also have public ownership in their manifesto for essential services like water. The British right have moved on from privatisation.

Spending billions & billions won't help a system that needs reform. Why would anyone want to buy the NHS in the first place? It would be a disaster.

@yhrgalaxy @MattZeitlin You know that will never happen, right? No party in the UK is calling for that. It would cost billions and would require cross-party consensus. Any incoming government would reverse it. Reform want to keep in funded at general taxation level and free at the point of use.

@yuyuafool @MattZeitlin Hate to tell you but no political party will privatise the NHS fully. There's a reason why Thatcher never did. It would be political suicide. The NHS needs reform but it won't get that when scaremongers constantly claim that's it is being privatised.

@South_Euro @Tom_Rowsell Again lawn tennis is an English sport plus we set the modern rules for it. Same for football. England is the first country to win world cups in football, cricket, and rugby; all sports we invented and made the modern rules for. Check GB at the Olympics as well.

England is by far not the one of the biggest under performers. Outside of football, what sport does Spain do well at? Maybe tennis lately?

People think of 1066 as the great rupture in British history, but I think its 1688 - that William of Orange is a greater Conqueror than William of Normandy. Over the intervening six centuries we were second rank, feudal, absolutist, basically French. The Dutch came over and taught us about capitalism, debt, the Navy - reconnected us with our Anglo-Saxon roots and catapulted Britain to it's historic role as creator of the modern world.

@JakesScarfStash You Scots are utterly obsessed with England. We have tons of footpaths and coastal footpaths connected throughout our country. You seem to forget most of our land is working fertile farms, but you can normally walk around them and admire the countryside.

@Anglo_Warrior Thankfully the London the English built is still there. The central parts are actually still quite English, it's the outskirts that have been completely lost. Our capital, and rightly so, still has it's wonderful English character, but it's fading away slowly.

The English have spent a thousand years giving them grief - Agincourt, Waterloo, endless Channel-side eye-rolling - and they just keep bouncing back with annoying flair. Silver medallists of Western civilisation, forever. They take a battlefield thrashing and turn it into a tragic romance with violins. They turn a baguette into a national religion. It’s ridiculous. And yet... Deep down (under several layers of warm beer and irony) the English can't help loving the French. They've been each other's favourite sparring partners for a millennium: proper rivals, proper brothers-in-arms, the only people who ever made each other raise their game. Respect? @PaulaCoyscot There would also need to be a hard border implemented between England and Scotland, destroying business and giving Scots no free moment throughout the UK. It all seems bizarre considering you already have a good deal being part of the UK and would risk becoming very poor.

@PaulaCoyscot Many English people wouldn't care if you got your vote and desired to leave. It's your call, and we'd be fine without Scotland. After all, much of the UK's assets that make it a superpower are based in England itself. Those assets would have to leave Scotland as well.
