STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE PRESIDENT TINUBU ASSURES ON RESCUE OF KIDNAPPED VICTIMS IN OYO STATE, CONDEMNS REPORTED KILLING OF ABDUCTED TEACHER President Bola Tinubu has condemned as barbaric the reported killing of one of the abducted teachers from the Esiele community in Oyo State, while the rescue operation is underway. Bandits invaded the Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State last Friday. They abducted staff, students, and pupils of Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School and L.A. Primary School. Security operatives are working around the clock to rescue the victims and apprehend the bandits and their collaborators within the community. President Tinubu sympathised with Governor Seyi Makinde, the government, and the people of Oyo State for the unfortunate incident and assured them that the federal government will collaborate with the state government to rescue the victims. "I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community. I sympathise with Governor Seyi Makinde and commend the steps he has taken on the matter. I sympathise with the families of the kidnapped victims. "The Federal Government is working with the Oyo State government to rescue all the victims. I commend the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioners of Police in Oyo and Kwara States for their quick intervention and the deployment of a tactical and the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) team to rescue the victims. "The IGP, following my instructions, is personally leading the tech-driven operation. We expect a breakthrough soon. The bandits and all their local collaborators will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law. "Cases of kidnapping further make imperative the establishment of state police to man some of our underserved areas. The National Assembly should accelerate the enactment of the law creating state police", the President said. Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy) May 18, 2026

When performance is discussed, context matters. The APC government led by Adegboyega Oyetola operated with N458.8 billion in four years, settled N97 billion in accumulated liabilities, and avoided fresh loans completely. Meanwhile, the present administration has had access to more than N1.217 trillion within a shorter period of 40 months, making comparisons inevitable among politically conscious observers.

Many attempts have been made to downplay the achievements of the APC administration led by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, but the records remain visible across Osun State. Despite operating with far fewer resources and lower federal allocations, projects were executed, workers received attention, and critical infrastructure was developed in several communities. Today, with reports of massive increases in allocations and revenues under Governor Ademola Adeleke, many Osun residents are questioning the level of visible development and its overall impact on people's lives. Governance should not revolve around optics or public entertainment alone. Citizens deserve transparency, responsible use of public funds, and meaningful projects that improve living conditions. When resources increase significantly, public expectations naturally rise as well.

Under the leadership of HE @GboyegaOyetola, Osun State received ₦458.8 billion in 48 months yet he still cleared ₦97 billion in accumulated debt without taking a single kobo in loans. In contrast, within just 40 months, the current administration of @AAdeleke_01 has received a staggering ₦1.217 trillion. The question is simple: with significantly higher resources, where are the commensurate results? Leadership is not just about funds received, but about discipline, prudence, and visible impact. Osun deserves accountability.

It is unfair to claim that the APC administration under former Governor Gboyega Oyetola achieved nothing in Osun State. Despite receiving far lower federal allocations and resources at the time, the APC government still delivered visible infrastructure, workers’ support, and developmental projects across the state. Today, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration has reportedly received over ₦1.2 trillion in allocations and revenues, yet many residents are still asking the same question: where are the corresponding projects and visible impact on the lives of the people? Leadership is not about media optics or entertainment. It is about prudent management of resources, accountability, and tangible development that citizens can see and feel. Osun people deserve answers. With significantly more funds available today, the expectation should naturally be significantly greater results.
