China chooses different and prioritises the safety of its children over performative compassion for monsters. The difference between China and the West is clear. In China the focus stays on deterrence and real consequences for the worst offences. Publicising these cases reinforces the bottom line. Harm kids and there will be no quiet deals or second chances. This is not new. Beijing has done it before and will do it again when the crimes demand it. It is rooted in practical reality: a stable society protects its most vulnerable first. When a country refuses to hide its toughness on child abusers and delivers results, is that backward or is it basic responsibility to its people? China has made its choice clear.

Property taxes are collected by the county to pay for the roads you travel over to get to and from home, shopping and employment. In a sense it is a type of wealth tax since people that choose to own more own expensive properties pay proportionally more taxes and do so every year.

You can't tax rich people on unrealized gains from stocks because "it's not real money until it's sold." So explain to me why my property taxes keep going up based on the unrealized value of my house? I didn't sell it, didn't cash out and didn't even make a profit. But somehow I'm paying taxes on paper gains every single year. Interesting how "unrealized gains" only become a problem when wealthy folks are involved.
