My second “first author” paper is published by Nucleic Acids Research! We show how one of the proteins I found from the proteomics screen (Enustun et al., Nat Struct Mol Biol, 2023) is important for mRNA transfer from the phage nucleus and for their translation.

One of the best works I contributed led by one of the best scientists I know @iamamardeeep & @_KevinCorbett lab. Check out the amazing paper that explores molecular mechanism of PARIS immune system!

Out today in @Nature! I am thrilled to share our work on the PARIS immune system in its final published form. Huge thanks to my mentor, Kevin Corbett @_KevinCorbett, and my teammates. See the thread below in comment section for a quick summary! nature.com/articles/s4158…

Another great paper from our team (led by Chase), which I’m the second author of, is now published by PNAS! We investigated the selective protein import mechanism to the phage nucleus and our findings provide a mechanistic model to the system!

@Emy_nim @jina_leemon @ben_a_adler @bradyfcress Relatedly, LC-MS/MS showed ChmC knockdown causes a global reduction in phage protein and effects more present for the putative virion structural proteins. We believe this is due to ChmC's role in the stages of infection where transcription occurs in the phage nucleus. 8/n

Our newest paper was published today, a capstone to our work on gain-of-function evolution, phage-bacterial interaction network formation, and microbial diversification.

Today in @ScienceMagazine: Rather than a slow, gradual process as Darwin envisioned, biologists can now see how evolutionary changes unfold on much more accelerated timescales. @justinrmeyer @jm_borin @UMDscience today.ucsd.edu/story/bacteria…

Today marks the 100th founding year anniversary of the Turkish Republic 🇹🇷. Ataturk, the visionary founder, said: "Science is the true mentor" for a better world. He advocated for "world peace" by listening each other & cooperation. Today, these visions are still much needed.

I'm thrilled to share the latest work from my lab, showing that a bacterial anti-phage immune system encodes a ubiquitination pathway strikingly similar to our own! biorxiv.org/content/10.110… (1/12)

We believe this work shows the first jumbo phages' protein plays a role in mRNA export from the phage nucleus and translation. It is very exciting as this replication system is sensitive to RNA-targeting defense systems & future works can allow to engineer better phage therapies!
