@EnverBral

I like to solve problems. Sometimes that involves writing code. A lot of times that involves people.

You sometimes need a consultant to come in and say the same thing that employees have been saying for years before change takes place. I know it's frustrating, but don't fight it. Be glad you're now getting the support you wanted and help steer it in the right direction.

@allenholub At the company I work for we mainly use Miro for planning. The trick is we maintain very small backlogs, even tho there's ALWAYS more to be worked on than we can. We still use Jira for support and bug tracking, but close ticket ASAP by either fixing now or deciding not to fix

People say: "Oh, you hate Jira. Name something better!" (though they don't usually say it so politely 😁). Okay: Very small backlogs (no more than a couple weeks work if that), [virtual?] whiteboards and sticky notes. When you release often, get feedback, and pivot based on that feedback, long backlogs just get in your way. There's nothing to manage.

@JelleVictoor I wouldn't say that, but I am looking forward to when the episode is live :)

@mob__mentality got some resources on the downsides of mobbing or when mobbing does not work? Context: at my current company, we've been mobbing with multiple teams for 2+ years. It's been mostly positive, but we also notice downsides and I'm looking for solutions to try

@mob__mentality @jitterted Thanks for taking the time to answer! I definitely wouldn't mind having a video call. The idea of being recorded does make me a feel bit uncomfortable though 😅. I'll get back to you on that.

@jitterted @mob__mentality Stuff like this gets brought up there, but often there's no clear solutions or experiment we can try to solve it. E.g. "moves too slow" seems to be a personal thing.

@jitterted @mob__mentality Most teams do retros at least once every 2 weeks. For pressing matters (e.g. emotions running high), I often push to have the retro as close to the event that triggered it (usually same day or start of next day).

@jitterted @mob__mentality Others just can't think in the group, but then when they separate from the group FOMO or self-imposed pressure to perform can kick in to keep them from thinking clearly. Consequence: it's easier to go with the first thing we come up with in group.

@jitterted @mob__mentality "Often choose first solution" actually clearly shows how some of the problems interact with each other: To counter it, we could spend more time to think and weigh the alternatives. But then for some it moves even more "too slow".

@jitterted @mob__mentality I've also spent quite some time practicing refactorings, shortcuts and patterns until they became muscle memory. These things are not muscle memory to others. I don't mind guiding them through it, but it is a bit frustrating to see others are not getting close to my speed

@jitterted @mob__mentality "Mob moves too slow" is a feeling that a few individuals in some of the teams feel. I can only speak for myself but I know (as in tested) that I can produce the same quality code a lot faster on my own for most of the code we write as a team.

@jitterted @mob__mentality I also don't notice that the additional time spent has lead to extra learning or alignment within the team.

@jitterted @mob__mentality There's also the aspect of noticing that you need a break but not taking the break because of FOMO or because you're scared you won't be able to jump back into the mob.

@jitterted @mob__mentality In general I've noticed that interacting with humans takes a lot more energy for some than interacting with the computer. Small breaks might not be enough for them to reload their battery.
