Today we honor and remember: Deputy Sheriff Michael Estes Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office, Washington End of Watch Wednesday, February 14, 2007 Deputy Michael Estes died of injuries he sustained when his patrol car was involved in a collision eight days earlier. He was driving with his emergency lights on to a residence in Burbank, where a 911 hangup call had been reported. He was traveling south on Highway 124 when he collided with an eastbound flatbed truck carrying drywall joint compound. The deputy was taken to Kadlec Medical Center where he remained until succumbing to his injuries. Deputy Estes had served with the Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office for 18 months. We mourn the loss of: Sergeant Nevada Krinkee Sheridan Police Department, Wyoming End of Watch Tuesday, February 13, 2024 Sergeant Nevada Krinkee was shot and killed while serving a trespass warning near 5th Street and Val Vista Street in Sheridan. Sergeant Krinkee was transported to Sheridan Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. The subject fled and barricaded himself inside a residence near Sixth Street and North Sheridan Avenue. The standoff is still active. Sergeant Krinkee was a United States Army veteran and had served with the Sheridan Police Department for over six years. Source: ODMP - odmp.org/officer/26938-…

We mourn the loss of: Patrol Officer Jonah Hernandez Las Cruces Police Department, New Mexico End of Watch Sunday, February 11, 2024 Patrol Officer Jonah Hernandez was stabbed to death while responding to a trespassing call at the 300 block of South Valley Drive in Las Cruces. A witness to the stabbing shot the suspect and then used Officer Hernandez's radio for help. Officer Hernandez was transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center where he died from his wounds. Officer Hernandez had served with the Las Cruces Police Department for two years. He was survived by his wife and two sons. Source: ODMP - odmp.org/.../26933-patr…...

We mourn the loss of: Deputy Sheriff Greg McCowan Blount County Sheriff's Office, Tennessee End of Watch Thursday, February 8, 2024 Deputy Sheriff McCowan was shot and killed while initiating a traffic stop at 4959 Sevierville Road in Maryville. Around 9:00 p.m., Deputy McCowan and his partner pulled over a vehicle. The driver would not cooperate and shot Deputy McCowan and the other deputy in the leg. She returned fire, but the subject fled on foot. Deputy McCowan was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. The other deputy was treated at the hospital and released. The subject, who is a convicted felon, has not been apprehended. Deputy McCowan had served with the Blount County Sheriff's Office for four years. Source: ODMP - odmp.org/.../26925-depu…

Today we honor and remember: Sergeant Chris Jenkins Loudon County Sheriff's Office, Tennessee End of Watch Thursday, February 3, 2022 Sergeant Chris Jenkins was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer while attempting to move a ladder from I-75 near mile marker 74. The ladder had fallen off the back of a utility truck and had created a traffic hazard on the interstate. Sergeant Jenkins had brought traffic to a stop with a rolling roadblock and then exited his vehicle to remove the ladder. An oncoming tractor-trailer was unable to stop and struck Sergeant Jenkins, his cruiser, and several other vehicles. The vehicle that dropped the ladder never stopped. The driver of the truck that struck him was charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication, vehicular homicide by recklessness, two counts of reckless endangerment, DUI, simple possession of narcotics, possession of a handgun under the influence, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sergeant Jenkins was a United States Air Force veteran and had served with the Loudon County Sheriff's Office for 20 years. He is survived by his son, daughter, mom, fiancee, fiancee's two daughters, sister, brother-in-law, and two nephews. His son also serves as a deputy with the agency. Sergeant Jenkins was a first cousin of Deputy Sheriff Jason Scott, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on March 12th, 2004, while also serving with the Loudon County Sheriff's Office. We mourn the loss of: Trooper Zachary Fink Florida Highway Patrol, Florida End of Watch Friday, February 2, 2024 Trooper Zachary Fink was killed in a vehicle crash during a pursuit on Interstate 95 north at Crosstown Parkway near Port St. Lucie at 3:00 a.m. At 2:40 am, the subject was speeding and reckless driving on I-95, and St. Lucie deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Other agencies joined the pursuit when the subject did not stop. The subject made a U-turn on Interstate 95, driving southbound in the northbound lanes on I-95. Trooper Fink initiated a U-turn to stop the vehicle and was struck by a semi-tractor trailer. Trooper Fink was transported to HCA Lawnwood Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was also killed. The pursuit continued, with the subject driving the wrong way on I-95. He eventually crashed and fled on foot. He was apprehended at 8:06 a.m. Trooper Fink had served with the Florida Highway Patrol for three years. He is survived by his mother, father, and fiancée. Source: ODMP - odmp.org/officer/26913-…

Today we honor and remember: Border Patrol Agent Donna Marie Doss United States Department of Homeland Security - Customs and Border Protection - United States Border Patrol End of Watch Saturday, February 2, 2019 Border Patrol Agent Donna Doss was struck and killed by a vehicle on the south service road of I-20 near mile marker 276, between Tye and Merkel, Texas. She had responded to the location to assist a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper determine the status of a subject believed to be in the country illegally. Agent Doss had served with the United States Border Patrol for 16 years and was assigned to the Del Rio Sector. Today we honor and remember: Police Officer John Painter Bridgewater College Police Department, Virginia End of Watch Tuesday, February 1, 2022 Police Officer John Painter and civilian Campus Safety Officer J.J. Jefferson were shot and killed while responding to a call involving a suspicious person carrying a duffel bag a restricted area of Memorial Hall. Officer Painter and CSO Jefferson contacted the subject. After a short interaction, the man opened fire on them, fatally wounding both. The man fled on foot into the town of Bridgewater. He was taken into custody after wading onto an island in the North River. The man was a former Bridgewater College student. He was charged with two counts of capital murder and additional felonies related to the incident. Officer Painter had formerly served as the police chief of the Grottoes Police Department.
