I don’t know why studies of motherhood aren’t seen as more important. we all have a biological mother, we all have the people who mother us (as a verb), we mother. what’s more intersectional than motherhood? in its presence & absence motherhood impacts & cuts across everything.

@DrCatherineB I worked the entire time during my T32 out of necessity, and felt like a criminal because we “weren’t supposed to”, but no one could show me an actual policy.

😬😬😬 When I was a PhD student, my T32 director explicitly told me I couldn’t pick up any side jobs bc I should be doing research full time. So that was my whole salary. Oh and then they didn’t take taxes out and I didn’t realize until I got slapped with owing thousands

The mind game of trying to work while a family member 12 hours away is terminally ill is not something I foresaw for my year 1 tenure-track experience. Like, the world is crashing but let’s write this manuscript… @Momademia

Working mom life is waking up in a panic on Sunday mornings about all the things- laundry, meal plan and shopping, house cleaning- while also just wanting to spend quality time with kid. Oh and don’t forget it’s grandparents day! @Momademia

From 20-21 I taught 120 students Intro to Public Health online at @FSUPublicHealth. Today, in my first class of 21 MCH grad students @usfcoph, one came up and said, “I was in your class at FSU. I still want to be a MD, but felt a MPH was a necessary first step.” And, cue tears.
