Twitter propagandist concerned anout Twitter propaganda campaign against Messi and sources Messi Bots. Reality is referee bias was in evidence early on with favorable calls/non-calls and it got more obvious which gave engagement campaign fuel. Pro-Messi bots flooded feeds too.

🇦🇷 The hate against Messi came out of nowhere, and it has nothing to do with football. Here's what's actually going on... Messi lifted the World Cup in December 2022 and the entire planet lost its mind celebrating. Three and a half years later, a chunk of the internet suddenly decided he's a villain. Nothing on the pitch changed. Same guy, same career, twenty years of footage anyone can check in under a minute. What changed is the feed. Villain edits started outperforming legend edits and the algorithm noticed. A 2018 MIT study tracked 126,000 claims across 3 million X users. False stories spread six times faster than true ones and got retweeted 70% more often. Outrage simply beats accuracy at getting attention. None of this needs a single big lie either. Illusory truth effect: see a claim enough times and it starts feeling true even when you know it's false, and the effect survives fact checks. Football is basically the most documented thing on earth. Every match, every angle, every ref decision, all archived. The narrative still won anyway. This Tweet is a little case study in propaganda. Propaganda works by attempting to distort reality as witnessed. Those that are already propagandized believe the distortion and those aren’t but susceptible second guess their own perceptions and start to believe the distortion.

@StrangerJosh11 I find it extraordinary that nobody has figured out a counter tactic to teams throwing up 70-80 3 point shots a game. The NFL usually needs an off-season to devise counter tactics to new tactics, though the appalling Eagles “tush push” seems to have taken longer to nullify.

Steady on, a bit knee-jerk but correct in essence, Messi’s and Argentina‘s reputation have taken a knock. Expect Messi PR damage control to kick in. It will take years for Argentina to recover and will be harder to do because they won’t have glow of Messi to do its media thing.

I watched all the games, there was very little doubt Argentina got favorable calls/non-calls throughout tournament and it was evident early. Because it was so evident it become an engagement campaign. There were other campaigns; see Messi and Cristiano. The bots were a blight.

@volatilitysmile Nah, every 16 along with Europe, that way there is a World Cup in Europe or the USA every 8 years. The World Cup in between can go to one of the other geographies, e.g., Japan, Korea, China; Australia, New Zealand; Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia.

@TexasOncologist No entity in this world will be altruistic with your data. The data we produce is designed to be used against us, be it for buying junk we don’t need to metrics designed to prop valuations and drive wealth transfer to Twitter bots spewing ragebait to have everyone argue over.
