@eroscestlavie_x this puts to words exactly what i was feeling about this debate, that it is not a necessarily a conscious intended thema of the painting but that it is closer to overt sexualisation because that’s the world the painting was born in and the context of soft female nudes

Visual literacy issue here is honestly how everyone in the thread is taking this painting as an isolated image: what does a sexualized or non sexualized painting even mean in the context of the late 19th century, which women had no rights to sexual or financial autonomy anyways?
