@itstaylorsmith9 I'll delete this message eventually because this is an unused account of mine, but I just wanted say that I don't often read as accurate political analysis on Turkey from non-Turkish accounts on Twitter. Please enjoy the spams replies from paid internet trolls that say otherwise.

genuine question and i genuinely don't understand why nobody is talking about this how does a NATO member state become a full dictatorship without a single tank rolling through the streets? because that's what just happened in Turkey. and most people missed it. while everyone was glued to Ukraine or the chaos in Iran, Erdoğan quietly finished what he started. no dramatic coup. no emergency declaration. just courts. just paperwork. just riot police showing up to evict an opposition leadership that won a legal election. that court ruling wasn't some rogue judge having a bad day. this was the system working exactly as designed. after the 2016 purges he replaced roughly a third of the judiciary. not with experienced legal minds. with young loyalists who know who signs their future. he's been using those lower courts like a scalpel ever since, cutting off rivals one by one, quietly, legally, slowly. Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Istanbul mayor who beat him twice, the one man Erdoğan genuinely fears, is sitting in a cell right now. and while he sits there, Erdoğan's judges handed the main opposition party back to a puppet nobody wanted and nobody voted for. clean. surgical. deniable. but here's the part that actually keeps me up at night: Brussels is silent. Berlin is silent. Paris is silent. why? these are the same governments that lecture the world about rule of law and democratic values. so why are they still signing trade deals? still shaking hands? still pretending? because they can't afford not to. Russian energy is gone. The Middle East is on fire. And somewhere along the way Europe quietly handed Erdoğan control over two things it cannot function without. Its border and its energy supply. He decides how many refugees reach Vienna. He decides whether certain pipelines keep flowing. that's not a partnership. that's leverage. and he knows exactly how to use it. so what we're watching right now isn't complicated. it's just honest in a way nobody wants to say out loud: the EU traded its moral authority for energy security and a border guard. European values aren't gone. they're just negotiable. turns out the price was right.
