A 36% tax on unrealized gains in the Netherlands isn’t good for anyone…
Not on profits you have taken.
On value you have not even realized yet.
This does not just affect crypto. It applies to equities, ETFs, bonds, private shares and long term investors in Box 3.
Imagine working for years and putting your hard earned savings into stocks. The market goes up and your portfolio grows. Under this system, that annual increase may be taxed even if you did not sell a single share.
That creates liquidity pressure and can require selling assets simply to cover the tax bill.
Imagine you are an employee holding shares in your company. The valuation increases, but your shares are locked or illiquid. Depending on the structure, taxable value can rise before liquidity exists. Where does the cash come from?
Compounding only works when capital stays invested. Annual taxation of unrealized value changes long term capital allocation incentives.
Tax profit when it is realized.
Not value that exists only on paper.
Because you cannot pay taxes with unrealized gains.
Policies that punish long term ownership do not create stronger economies. They weaken them

don't be fooled by what we post on here, we work a disgusting amount of hours in a day. call it discipline, but I think obsession is the better word.
don't get me wrong, we love building and creating. we can live the lifestyle we live because we're that obsessed and that good at what we do.
it doesn't feel like work because we love it. but that obsession, those hundreds of late nights at times, is simply what it takes to build something great. something that sticks with people.
it takes everything.
apply that same mindset to something else, and that's how you excel.
everyone wants to be successful, nobody wants to become it.
