I finished clearing 9” of snow from my driveway before filming my weekly update. I introduced bills on longer preventing human traffickers from early prison release, noting speech impediments on drivers licenses, and tracking the accuracy of Fiscal Notes - the assumptions we use when a bill is moving through the legislature. Thanks Rice County and SD55 republicans for the warm reception yesterday. I’ll see you in Le Sueur County, SD52 and SD53 next Saturday

This week I presented a bill to make it easier for local governments to partner together to offer health insurance for their employees. The goal is simple - allow counties, cities, school districts, townships, and watershed districts to work together to lower costs and save taxpayers money. Affordability continues to be a top priority for families in the 2nd Congressional District. Last week we rolled out a few ideas to help with that.

Election integrity requires action. I joined fellow MN legislators urging the Senate to advance the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act — requiring proof of citizenship to register and ID to vote in federal elections. A majority of Americans support these safeguards. In Congress, I’ll keep working to strengthen election integrity and restore trust in our elections.

After continued threats and aggression, the United States acted alongside our ally Israel to defend our people.   For more than 40 years, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has been the largest sponsor of terrorism globally and we must ensure they never acquire a nuclear weapon.   This is a moment for steady leadership and unity, not division, as we stand behind the men and women who wear our nation’s uniform.   Please join me in praying for our troops, supporting their families, and asking for wisdom for our leaders and lasting peace.   God bless our troops, and God bless the United States of America. 🇺🇸

Today the state’s budget forecast came out with some good news. The new forecast projects a balance of $3.7 billion in 2027, $1.3 billion higher than the November estimate. However, spending continues to outpace taxes by $3.3 billion and is unsustainable. The General Fund balance for 2028-2029, without any new spending, will drop to $377 million, and both the Budget Commissioner and the State Economist have warned of significant downside risk to the forecast. The reason for the good news is that tax collections are up. Because the national GDP is growing and the stock market is up, real income (income after inflation) is rising after falling in the Biden years, and income from investments has been better than expected…meaning your mutual funds and 401ks are doing better. Yet families remain anxious about their jobs and the economy, especially amid the expansion of AI. The campaign is going great, and there is growing excitement when I meet with CD2 residents and Republican delegates. Tomorrow I’ll be at Lake Middle School for the SD47 convention. @dogatemyslipper Yes. It was spread out over a 4 year program and none of it was operating money. Some of it could be used to buy start-up equipment.

"Securing $10 million to expand childcare businesses to help make childcare more accessible while creating new jobs" Please expand on your website claim. Minnesotans have been aware of childcare fraud going back at least 8 years. What actions have you taken to ensure the millions of dollars raised are spent on legitimate businesses? What is this money spent on to expand childcare?

It was an amazing event! I also want to thank the elders who took me through the museum that showed what the country was like pre-war and reminding visitors about what the war was like 50 years ago.
