There needs to be a moratorium on changing zoning laws. You cannot now decide that people who lost everything cannot rebuild their single-family home, because you’ve suddenly changed the zoning law to multi-family apartment buildings.

@lucyveepee @dieworkwear Yes, generally. There's a range of quality in both, but generally selvedge is made on older looms that create more interesting textures.

The New York Times, a publication I've worked for and love, recently published a guide on the best men's jeans. Included are $300 APCs and $50 stretch jeans from two different brands. I have a different view on how to find the perfect pair of jeans. So here's a thread. 🧵

@PyratHouseAJ @dieworkwear Besides the shops mentioned, some tailors specialize in fixing jeans. I have big thighs and minimal rear end -- so I get tight legs or diaper seat. Denim Therapy in NYC has worked magic for me.

@lucyveepee @dieworkwear All denim used to be selvedge, with a built-in band to prevent unraveling. But around 1980 manufacturers switched to wider looms, so selvage was less practical. They had to cut the fabric in the middle, making a "selvedge edge" irrelevant.

@dieworkwear Solid thread. Only one thing to add: If you really want a traditional, authentic experience, you have to go unsanforized, aka shrink-to-fit, fabric. The feel is better IMO, and you get more interesting "roping" effects on chainstitched hems.

@jedidiah_io @dieworkwear True, but the point is that there are less expensive makers in the U.S. than Tellason, Raleigh, etc. And if the fabric in a $75 pair costs $20, the tariff would raise the $75 total to $80, still about what imported Levi's cost now.
