READ: NBI Director Melvin Matibag shares with the INQUIRER a copy of the request letter signed by GSIS Pres. and General Manager Wick Veloso, dated May 13 (Wednesday), the day the shooting incident took place at the Senate. Based on the letter, Veloso requested Matibag to deploy NBI personnel at the GSIS premises, where the Senate is located, to “assist in maintaining peace, order, and security in the area” amid the tensions caused by the supposed arrest of Sen. Bato dela Rosa. “Their presence would greatly help ensure the safety of all individuals within the premises, prevent any untoward incidents, and support the orderly conduct of ongoing activities,” the letter read. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro earlier addressed the shooting incident, saying that Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca first fired a warning shot after noticing the presence of the NBI agents in the area. Aplasca then admitted to being the first to discharge his firearm, explaining that it was a warning shot against NBI personnel. | @MJSalcedoINQ RELATED STORY: inqnews.net/palacesenate
