Twitter used to have two superpowers: velocity and credibility. Retweets meant something is credible. Speed meant it’s urgent and important. But both are sadly broken now. A viral post today could be AI-generated, a conspiracy, or pure fiction - just riding on the dopamine of rapid retweets. In fact most viral posts are probably suspect. The platform still has tremendous value but in a different way. The old pact of velocity and credibility is gone. The new rule is: don’t retweet what you haven’t verified. Don’t give velocity to what doesn’t deserve credibility. We are the algorithm now. We need to use it responsibly.
