MUTFWANG HAILS NURTW AS CRITICAL SECURITY PARTNER, PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR TRANSPORT SECTOR ...Commends Union's Role in Crime Prevention, Road Safety, and Economic Development Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has commended the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for its significant contributions to road safety, security, and the fight against criminal activities across the state, describing the union as a strategic partner in the government's efforts to sustain peace and public order. Governor Mutfwang made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the leadership and members of the NURTW Plateau State Chapter to the New Government House, Rayfield, Jos, on Monday, June 2, 2026. The Governor praised the union for its longstanding cooperation with government and security agencies, particularly in identifying criminal elements, enhancing intelligence gathering, and promoting safer roads across the state. He urged transport workers to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies in combating child trafficking, drug-related offences, banditry, and the illegal movement of arms and other contraband. "The National Union of Road Transport Workers has been a credible and dependable partner in our efforts to fight crime and eradicate social vices. We deeply appreciate your support and encourage you to sustain and strengthen these efforts," the Governor stated. Governor Mutfwang further assured the union of his administration's commitment to strengthening the transport sector. He pledged to explore practical measures that would enable operators to acquire newer, safer, and more efficient vehicles, thereby improving transportation services and enhancing the livelihoods of transport workers. Earlier, the State Chairman of the NURTW, Yakubu Dalyop, congratulated Governor Mutfwang on what he described as "three years of purposeful leadership marked by infrastructural renewal, improved security, and deliberate efforts to reposition Plateau State for sustainable growth and development." Dalyop commended the administration's road rehabilitation projects and the ban on illegal motor parks, noting that the initiatives had improved traffic management, enhanced public order, and contributed to reducing criminal activities in many parts of the state. He appealed to the government to expand road reconstruction projects, provide proper road markings, and construct standard motor parks across the state to further improve road safety, boost revenue generation, and enhance the efficiency of transportation services. The NURTW chairman also highlighted the union's collaboration with security agencies and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in combating child trafficking and illegal migration. According to him, transport workers have successfully intercepted several trafficking attempts through increased surveillance and vigilance at motor parks and transit points across the state. Reaffirming the union's support for the Mutfwang administration, Dalyop described transport workers as a vital link between government and the people and assured the Governor of the union's continued partnership in promoting peace, security, and economic development throughout Plateau State. A connected Plateau is a prosperous Plateau. From securing direct Lagos–Jos and Abuja–Jos flights through a strategic partnership with ValueJet, to reviving rail services between Jos and Kuru, the administration is restoring critical transport links that drive commerce, investment, and mobility. The launch of the Tin City Metro Bus Service is providing residents with safer, more reliable, and affordable urban transportation, while the refurbishment of inter-state buses is improving comfort and efficiency for travelers across Nigeria. By strengthening air, rail, and road transportation, Plateau State is creating a more accessible, connected, and business-friendly environment for residents, visitors, and investors alike. #TheTimeIsNow

Building a stronger education sector remains a key priority of the Mutfwang administration. To improve the quality and administration of senior secondary education, the government established the Senior Secondary Education Board, creating a stronger framework for learning and academic excellence across the state. The administration also intervened decisively to safeguard the future of higher education by releasing ₦200 million to prevent the collapse of Plateau Polytechnic due to accreditation challenges and ₦300 million to secure the accreditation of core courses at Plateau State University, Bokkos. In a bid to make education more accessible and affordable, tuition fees at Plateau State University were reduced, while scholarship payments for Plateau State indigenes were revived after years of neglect. The government has also continued to invest in human capital development through scholarship support for Plateau engineering students studying in foreign universities, ensuring that the next generation is equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to compete globally. These interventions reflect a deliberate commitment to strengthening institutions, expanding opportunities, and securing a brighter future for the people of Plateau State.

I commissioned the rehabilitated Yelwa Water Treatment Plant, a key step in my administration’s commitment to providing clean and reliable water to residents of Bukuru, Gyel, and surrounding communities. This project reflects our determination to improve the quality of life of Plateau citizens, especially women and families who bear the burden of inadequate water supply. While Plateau is blessed with abundant water resources, our challenge has been treatment, distribution, and maintenance. We must protect our water infrastructure and ensure only safe water reaches our people. I also reaffirmed our resolve to prevent encroachment on water facilities and reservoirs, as safeguarding these assets is critical to public health. As part of our broader efforts to revamp water services, I signed a Memorandum of Understanding worth over ₦28 billion with China Geo-Engineering Corporation and Shanxi Construction Investment Group. The project, financed through a loan from the French Development Agency, will rehabilitate and expand water treatment facilities and distribution networks across the state. This investment will modernize aging infrastructure, improve water quality, strengthen supply within the Jos metropolis, and ensure sustainable access to safe water for our people.
