Most people will look at @PortaldotL0 Mini Hackathon S1 and just see a normal builder event.
But when you actually pay attention to how it’s set up, it feels more intentional than that.
You’re required to build on Portaldot, use POT as gas, and submit a working MVP that can actually be demoed.
That alone changes everything.
It means this isn’t for ideas or half-finished projects. If your product doesn’t run, it doesn’t count.
What stands out to me the most is the POT gas requirement.
It’s not just a rule, it’s a strategy.
Every project built during the hackathon automatically creates real activity on the network. So instead of just bringing in developers, Portaldot is using the hackathon to actively grow and test its own ecosystem at the same time.
Then there’s the open-source part.
That tells me this isn’t just about this moment. It’s about what comes after. Builders aren’t just submitting projects, they’re leaving behind something others can actually build on.
So what’s being created here isn’t just random dApps.
It’s early use cases, working products, and pieces of infrastructure that can keep developing even after the event ends.
For me, that’s the most important part.
This hackathon isn’t just about who wins.
It’s about who builds something real enough to still matter after everything is over.
Because at the end of the day, ecosystems don’t grow from hype.
