@scottjwillis If Arsenal hadn't spent 6 years nailing transfers to the extent they moved from 8th to 1st, it'd be understandable. But as it is, people should see Arsenal don't have the billions to smash through negotiations and are shopping for rare talents, so it takes longer than most clubs.

It feels like a bit of Déjà vu from last summer’s transfer window with regards to fan anxiety of about the speed at which Arsenal is moving.

This is correct, right: If the referee had mistakenly called a foul on Paredes, but not a yellow card, Embolo couldn't have been sent off for mistaken identity?

@isaac_kh Yes but remember, the fantasists are the ones who question whether dredging up more North Sea oil is a good idea&wonder if waiting for solar and wind to be profitable might take too long. The hard-nosed realists are the ones who think we should ignore catastrophic global heating.

@ArranPascoe @billycarpy I thought exactly this. Is there a specific provision in the "mistaken identity" rule for this exact situation? Because if not, it really doesn't feel true to mistaken identity as a concept.

@billycarpy I still dont get how its "mistaken identity" anyway. The reff believed the defending player made the foul, thats not mistaken identity. Thats just tye reff reading the collision wrong

@Proudlibyandoc @PhilipProudfoot It might well in the short term, but FPTP has blatantly been a major factor in getting us this far towards Reform. Two party system it propped up has left so little room for expression of any political dissent it's created a monstrous economy with a fully wound up population.

There’s a timeline where England winning the World Cup changes the electoral system. 1. England wins the World Cup 2. Andy Burnham calls a general election, riding the celebratory wave 3. Proportional Representation is a manifesto commitment 4. Burnham wins 5. PR

Watching Haaland this tournament without the Man City baggage has been a joy. It's crazy to think he's only 25. Nothing is for certain, but with some bounces, health, fortune, and more development, he could reach Merino levels.

There’s a good line from Gary Stevenson while speaking to Piers Morgan last night. You can’t have an untaxed billionaire class, and an asset owning middle class at the same time. You have to choose. He’s right.

@flying_rodent Does it not, in some ways, make you despair that enough people are willing to swallow the whims of said 2,000 wankers? (Not by any means a majority, but enough, within FPTP)

The simple explanation is: almost nothing in British politics is meaningfully real, except for whatever is expedient to maybe two thousand of this country’s most tiresome wankers this week, all of which could change tomorrow if that is more useful and interesting to said wankers.

If the guy goes from Menace II Society and legit voice of the downtrodden to a national laughing stock overnight, just because the press decide they’ve had enough of his bullshit and it’s time to put him back in his box: does that not kind of give the whole game away?

@fkhanage @afcjxmes Ppl want to turn the academy into a second first-team, full of expensive signings. Bt there's a reason only the likes of City&Chelsea can afford that risk. Given the results from the academy in recent years, the rush to change it clearly a symptom of enjoying short term spending

@BanterV2Mfrs @garyseconomics I get where you're coming from. I think people would in general be more up for growth-based solutions if we'd seen anyone pull out much growth since 08.

I understand that, but it’s futile and quite frankly ridiculous. Wealth is mobile, many of these people employ tens of thousands of people who pay tax, many would shut up shop and move abroad…who fills that huge gap? You equalise wealth by creating growth, reducing inflation and giving people opportunity to work in highly paid jobs.

@BanterV2Mfrs @garyseconomics The tax is more about equalising wealth than paying off debts. U.K.'s debt levels are pretty normal, even by a monetarist analysis.

It’s finished with low IQ retards like you parroting absolute BS. You don’t even understand the difference between tax on income and tax on inheritance… And your little wealth tax, if successful would raise enough to pay about one month of our debt repayments…while driving job creators out of the country. You are nothing but a grifter

@fkhanage @gunnerpunner First half of first season without him, we drop points to midtable teams. Second half we go on a generational run and reach 89 points. It's insanely called a "bottle job" by lazy pundits but it's the opposite: First half of the season we lacked Xhaka's creativity and assuredness

When you look at how Odegaard & Xhaka play under pressure, the leaders they are for their countries, the responsibility they take - we had two really special players in midfield during our rebuild.

@billycarpy Theory: In a few more years we can go back to backup GKs being older rather than younger. But at the moment that option is blocked because older keepers came from diff football culture where being very good with feet wasn't the norm.

Doesn't feel like a GK3 signing. My expectations are managed for backup GKs; still, have watched Meslier a lot and would love to say I feel better. If you go this route there can be no handshake cup keeper: it has to be earned. If it isn't, Raya has to start in the latter stages.
The Athletic | Football@TheAthleticFC

Arsenal are set to sign goalkeeper Illan Meslier, following his exit from Leeds United. The arrival of 26-year-old former France U21 international should free Tommy Setford up to go on loan. More from @gunnerblog 🔗 nyti.ms/4aGZAZB

@FiddyCalibre @AaronBastani It's more like: The state underwrites all businesses in this direct and indirect manner, then he goes and whines about giving back any part of the profit accumulated from that process until it suits him to go and grab more free money.

Libertarian Brexiteer, who doesn’t trust the state to build stuff, wants government subsidies to build a new stadium for Manchester United and for the EU (?!) to help fund his factories. How seriously have these people thought about their politics?

Drew Pavlou 🇦🇺🇺🇸🇺🇦🇹🇼@DrewPavlou

90,000 Mexicans at the Estadio Azteca belting out the national anthem with tears in their eyes. Sami Gold @souljagoyteller can you please let them know bro that they need to read Benedict Arnold’s Imagined Communities, it’s all imaginary!!!! Seriously though it’s so funny how leftists say the World Cup is about multiculturalism and global cooperation when it is literally a venue for intense nationalist competition. I admire the Mexicans for their patriotism.
