Thank you @EthanScheiner for a great read and a superb piece of research and writing. The expression "Freedom to win" came from Martina Navratilova who watched the two 1969 Worlds Czechoslovakia vs Soviet games, arguably the two most hate-filled hockey games ever played. >

Václav Nedomanský of Czechoslovakia scored 9 goals in 10 games at the 1969 World Championships helping CSSR to a silver medal but more importantly by helping CSSR stick to the USSR in both their head-to-head match-ups.

Bobby Holík's dad was pretty good at hockey too. Jaroslav Holík was a key member of the Czechoslovakian National Team in the 1960s & 1970s and was coach of the Czech Republic World Jr. team that won gold in 2000. Here he is serving 2 at the 1969 World Championships.
