Personally, I don’t think games need to chase photorealism. There’s something magical about a strong, deliberate art style. The more tech advances, the more visually homogeneous everything starts to look, and while, yeah, it’s impressive, it’s also a little soulless. That’s why so many lower-budget, stylistic games end up sticking with people longer than the hyper-realistic ones. They have identity. They have heart. They feel like something.
