@LastingResolve his hand runs through his hair. he squints, blinks. “i kind of passed out on my couch. you .. wanna come in?”

@EtherealAviator His eyes widen a bit as he opens the door. "Oh, h- hey. Did I wake you?"

Knocking at @EtherealAviator's door. Loudly.

@LastingResolve he does a small nod, thankful that he can hide his face away again, sure that the ache he feels is currently written across his face. “that’s okay.”

@EtherealAviator He breaks eye contact for a moment as he shakes his head. "I, no— I didn't. I wasn't sure what to say."

He's home and he's sore, but he has a kid that really wants to see @EtherealAviator.

@LastingResolve he hums, hand rubbing Ben’s back. the kiddo still hadn’t let go of him. “so you.. didn’t tell him anything?”

@EtherealAviator "Someone wanted to leave the house while grandma was out." Baxter nods to his son. "He asked if he could come over."

@LastingResolve “i miss her too.” the woman who said she’d beat baxter’s ass for breaking his heart, which had been the only time he’d laughed in the days after. “what brings you two here?”

@EtherealAviator Baxter steps into the residence, closing the door behind him as Jake's arms are preoccupied. "Mom wanted to drop by too, but she's been running errands. Think she misses you."

@LastingResolve “not at all.” he speaks, his voice tight as he tries to keep his heartache inside, to not let Ben know or see how much it hurts to see both him and his dad.

@EtherealAviator "I know he's already made his way inside, but do you mind if we come in?" Baxter asks, voice rough as his eyes flicker from his son to Jake.

@LastingResolve he’s hiding his face a bit, head tilted down as he wraps his arms around Ben, picking him up as he does. it doesn’t make it any easier, the heartache. “hey buddy, i’ve missed you too.”

@EtherealAviator Baxter stands behind Ben, waiting for the door to open while his heart thumps heavily in his chest. Ben is oblivious, happy to be there. In fact, he practically runs once the door is open, throwing his arms around Jake.

@LastingResolve he wouldn’t want to hurt the kid like that. he’s opening the door, looking down at Ben, a smile that doesn’t reach all the way to his eyes being painted onto his face as he speaks, “oh hey kiddo!”

@EtherealAviator Ben will have to find out one day soon, but for now, he’s knocking excitedly at Jake’s door.

@LastingResolve the past is the past now, hurt hearts just have to stay that way.

@EtherealAviator Believe him, Baxter regrets taking that choice from him, but he was scared.

@LastingResolve he still wishes he could’ve made part of the decision.

@EtherealAviator He knows he made the wrong choice. He was expecting the worst outcome with that mission.

@LastingResolve could’ve not broken his heart, but that ship has gone and sailed.

@LastingResolve he definitely misses all the time he usually spends when Ben and him, but .. he can’t have that anymore.

@EtherealAviator He knows, but Ben still looks up to him. Baxter knows now he made the wrong call, but he's learning to adapt. Ben is struggling with the change.

@LastingResolve he just knows that Ben is gonna be super excited to see him, but he’s still got a healing heart. he could barely look at Ben the last time he saw him.

@EtherealAviator Never said he* wasn't excited to see Jake. He just knows his kiddo misses him, a lot.
