Escalation in Greek Scandal Over EU Funds
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has carried out a cabinet reshuffle to try to contain the political fallout from a widening scandal involving alleged fraud in the distribution of European Union agricultural subsidies.
➡️The scandal centers on the Greek payment agency OPEKEPE, which manages over €2 billion annually in EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) funds for Greek farmers. Investigations by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) allege an organised fraud scheme involving:
1⃣Falsified claims for land ownership, including “ghost farms”
2⃣Inflated numbers of livestock (e.g., declared sheep and goats roughly doubling in some periods without corresponding evidence).
3⃣Misuse of subsidies through shell companies, computer fraud, breach of trust, and other offenses against EU financial interests, particularly around 2021.
➡️Much of the alleged fraudulent activity was concentrated on the island of Crete, a region with long-standing political influence from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis's family.
➡️The scandal first gained major traction in 2025, leading to resignations of a minister and four senior officials, charges against dozens of livestock farmers, and a record €392 million fine imposed on Greece by the EU in June 2025 for mismanagement between 2016 and 2023.
⚠️The recent escalation comes after the EPPO requested on April 1 that the Greek Parliament lift the immunity of 11 sitting lawmakers, all from the ruling New Democracy party, to advance the probe.

🇺🇦🇷🇺EUROGHOST INVESTIGATION:
Zelenskiy's War Claims – Fact or Fiction?
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy has today claimed that the frontline situation is the best it has been for Ukraine in the last 10 months. At a press conference, he stated:
➡️“Overall, the front line is holding... The situation is complex, but the best it has been in the last 10 months.”
He backed it up by saying that he'd received a report from the British agency MI6 which also stated the same:
➡️“By the way, on Wednesday there was a report from my intelligence and an analysis from British intelligence. I received MI6’s assessment of the situation on our front line – specifically, that the current situation is the best for Ukraine in the past 10 months. This is their conclusion...”
But is what he's saying true or not, and is there an agenda behind his statements? Lets take a look.
‼️Zelenskiy referred to a thwarted Russian offensive, frontline holding overall, and slowed or stalled Russian advances as the key Ukrainian achievements, and emphasised that these assessments came directly from intelligence briefings. The intelligence sources referred to were Ukrainian intelligence and MI6. Putting aside that Ukrainian intelligence works for him, the British MI6 can hardly be thought of as independent since Britain is one of the major backers of Ukraine.
⁉️The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a Washington D.C. based think-tank, has also claimed that Russian advances have slowed down in 2026 compared to previous year, and that Ukrainian counterattacks have yielded net gains in some areas. This would seem to back up Zelenskiy's claims of success.
⚠️➡️ISW is run by Kimberly Kagan, its founder and president, and wife of Frederick Kagan. Frederick’s brother is Robert Kagan, a prominent neocon writer and analyst, who is married to Victoria Nuland. And Nuland, of course, is one of the chief instigators of the Ukraine war and was the leader of the Maidan Coup in 2014 which overthrew the elected Ukrainian government and replaced it with another that set the country's path firmly towards a war with Russia. She belongs to a faction in US politics which are the chief backers of Ukraine. ISW is therefore anything but an independent observer.
🔴Additionally, Zelenskiy has a long standing pattern of exaggerating Ukrainian achievements on the battlefield, even during periods when independent analyses showed Ukrainian forces facing significant challenges, slow progress, high casualties, or net territorial losses to Russia.
➡️The timing of his claims is significant. Ukraine faces significant funding pressures in 2026, with a €90 billion aid package stalled and defense spending projected to run out as early as June without fresh inflows. Russian officials and state media have consistently pushed back against similar Ukrainian claims of stabilisation or improvement by emphasizing their own advances and portraying Kyiv's statements as propaganda or wishful thinking.
🔃In summary, Zelenskiy's comments come at a time when Ukraine is facing significant difficulties in securing Western funding for continuation of the war. The battlefield situation for Ukraine has looked bleak long-term with increasing shortages of manpower in the face of constant Russian advances.
It is likely that a positive spin is being put on these battlefield realities in order to secure more aid funding and boost domestic and international confidence. The Ukrainian government is well known to be one of the most corrupt in the world and therefore any statement from them needs to be taken with a heavy pinch of salt.

"Belgium has no more money"
That's the blunt admission from Pierre Wunsch, head of the National Bank of Belgium.
He warned that the government must find at least 5 billion euros just to balance the 2026 budget.
"We no longer have money. Of course we cannot rule out targeted assistance to people in a particularly vulnerable position. But we no longer have room for maneuver to mitigate the consequences of the crisis at the expense of state funds," he said.
Fitch agency reports that in 2025 the budget deficit exceeded more than 5 percent of GDP in Belgium, France, and the UK.
This comes as Belgium faces a brutal energy price shock from the Middle East conflict, with its public finances already stretched thin after years of heavy spending during COVID and the Ukraine crisis.
The fiscal buffers are gone, and the country is now highly vulnerable to any further downturn.

🇭🇺 Orban just called it exactly what it is.
📢 "Europe is heading toward one of the most severe economic crises in its history. The only way out is to lift sanctions on Russian energy. Immediately."
📈Gas prices up 56% since February. Crude at $111/barrel. The Iran war has wrecked Middle East energy infrastructure. And Brussels? Still clinging to sanctions that are crushing European industry and households.
🇪🇺 Meanwhile, the EU's own Energy Commissioner admits the disruption will last long after the war ends.
🇵🇱 Tusk calls this "Putin's dream." No, Donald—watching Europe freeze and de-industrialize while bureaucrats pat themselves on the back? That's the real nightmare.
The EU chose symbolism over strategy. Now everyone pays the price.

⛽️ France: 900+ stations dry. Diesel at €2.25/L. Panic buying triggered by price caps.
🇫🇷 French government: "Less than 10% affected. No shortage risk."
- Analysis: Price caps distort demand. Strategic reserves unused. Government downplays while pumps run empty.
- The EU Spent years cutting off Russian energy (25% of imports) with no alternative. Now reliant on a Middle East on fire.
As a result, a war in Hormuz breaks France's fuel supply. No buffer. No plan.
Leadership failure in Paris...

🇸🇪 Sweden's coastguard just boarded a foreign tanker in the Baltic-EU sanctions or not, that's not law enforcement, that's piracy.
🚢 Flora 1 was sailing legally, flying the flag of Sierra Leone, heading from Russia to Brazil. Then Sweden decided to play highway robber with the excuse that the ship was "spilling oil". They board the ship, escort it to port, and start digging through the crew's papers.
"Unknown flag status"? It was flying a recognized flag. "Unclear destination"? It was headed to Brazil.
Sweden has done this twice in the past month alone. Boarding suspect vessels. Detaining crews. Opening "investigations."
Since when did coastguards get to act like privateers?
This isn't protecting sovereignty. It's bullying ships on the high seas.

🇮🇹 Italy is running out of cash to keep gas prices from exploding.
⚔️The war in the Middle East has sent energy markets spiraling again but instead of a united European response, Rome is left holding an empty bag.
📰La Repubblica reports that Italy can barely extend the excise duty suspension until May 1. That burns through the last available resources. After that? Nothing left.
🤔So why is Italy in this position?
🇪🇺 Because the EU's rigid fiscal straightjacket—failed austerity rules, no energy sovereignty, and a Commission more worried about debt than people freezing in the dark—has left member states with zero room to breathe.
🔴While the EU lectures on "green transition" and pats itself on the back, Italian families are staring down impossible fuel bills. And when the next price spike hits and it will there will be no buffer left.
🔴This is what EU "solidarity" looks like, every country left to fend for itself during a war, hands tied by rules written in a bubble.
Italy needs permission to act. Not more lectures. Not more austerity.

🇫🇷❌🇺🇸 Is this too late for Macron to state?
"We do not want to be too exposed to the unpredictability of the US."
For decades, allies have been expected to follow Washington blindly through disastrous wars, trade tantrums, broken treaties, and whiplash foreign policy that changes every four years.
Now apparently France says "enough"
His call for closer cooperation between France, South Korea, and Japan isn't about forming a new bloc. It's about no longer being a vassal to an unreliable superpower that demands loyalty but offers only chaos in return.
The US has proven it cannot be counted on. So why keep pretending?
Is this just for show to get his falling ratings up or does he mean it?
