Strengthening collaboration across European football leagues 🤝⚽ These past few days, members of @EuropeanLeagues gathered in Düsseldorf for the annual Commercial & Business Development Meeting, co-hosted with @DFL_Official and held alongside the Sports Innovation Conference. The meeting brought together 60 league representatives from across Europe to exchange insights on market trends, review current partnerships and explore new commercial opportunities for domestic professional football competitions. Important discussions this week in London at the @ftlive Business of Football Summit, bringing together leaders from across European football and the wider sports business landscape. @EuropeanLeagues was pleased to contribute to the debate on financial sustainability and competitive balance, alongside representatives from @EFC_Football, @FIFPRO Europe and the @EFL. During the session, our General Secretary, Alberto Colombo, set out the perspective of domestic competition organisers on the structural challenges currently facing the game, including growing financial and sporting polarisation and the increasing pressure created by international calendar expansion. His message was clear: domestic league football must remain the backbone of the European game. Ensuring its long-term health requires balanced governance based on meaningful stakeholder involvement in all matters impacting the game including in the setting of the international match calendar, alongside sustainable financial frameworks that encourage rational financial behaviour and well-considered redistribution models that safeguard competitive balance. As international competitions continue to evolve, growth must be aligned with sustainability. Safeguarding the unpredictability and integrity that make domestic leagues so compelling for fans worldwide is critical.
