🌱 Today I successfully defended my #PhD which explored the application of #metabolomics for Western Australian #seagrass performance assessment! 🌱
🌱 WA's cost is home to 40% of the world's seagrass species yet we still need to learn more about what makes them happy or sad! 🌱

It's #PhDone! 📖
I submitted the product of my 3.5 year long journey demonstrating that #metabolomics can significantly advance #seagrass performance assessment under stress! 🌱🧪

Very happy to share that my first paper of my Masters has officially been published with @Dr_Rob_Davis. Unfortunately it’s a sad tale, but here’s a picture from one of our cameras on West Wallabi Island, and the link if you wish to check it out:

Fantastic news to wake up to. @RyanCarterECU a @WildlifeLab masters student got his first ever paper accepted - and in an excellent journal. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the success of our students. Watch this space for future details on a sad but important study.

The adventure begins. Today marks the start of our field season surveying the endangered Abrolhos Painted Button-quail. First stop North Island. Conditions clear and still for a safe flight across a sparkling Indian Ocean.

Feeling very honoured to have received the #ErnestHodgkin Trust Research Scholarship 2021! This generous award will support fundamental #metabolomics research on #seagrasses in #WA #estuaries!

What am I? 🤔🤔
Please help Twitter-Land.
These funny little things were found washed up on the shore of the Wilson Inlet by a resident (by the bucket load!).
I’m stumped. Did it come from the Inlet? Did it wash in from the catchment?
If you have any ideas, please share!

Had a great time presenting with @JBillinghurst0 at the Biology, Earth and Environmental Sciences Day organised by @AusAssEnvEd, speaking about the incredible experiences we’ve had studying #EnvironmentalScience at @EdithCowanUni. Thanks @Michell06981874 for the opportunity!

Dropping bromadialone across NSW in an attempt to control the mouse plague is a terrible idea. In the @ConversationEDU today myself and colleagues Mike Lohr, @Acanthoplus, @LettsGetSnakes and @terngirl outline the collateral damage this will cause. theconversation.com/mouse-plague-b…

Can't believe this experiment has finally started! 🌱🌱How much will my #seagrass enjoy low light and sulfide stress? We'll check out their #metabolism and #carbon uptake!

Great lecture with my @teamswiftparrot interview for the @EdithCowanUni conservation biology students today - despite him being busy currently saving birds on Norfolk Island.

Fantastic trip to Ellen Brook Nature Reserve with @Science_DBCA and @EdithCowanUni conservation biology students to see how the critically endangered Western Swamp Tortoise has survived the #Perthfires

Aquarium experiments; a dream if $$$ is unlimited.
If not, the sheer volume of manual labour involved is incomprehensible.
Masters student @sambillinghurst knows ALL about this as he sets up to explore:

Stay resilient Sam!🌱🧐
