𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬
Most times events are just hosted because it's part of their Calendar or planned
But they forget that what makes or keeps the community engaging is the "Experience".
They join, they listen and they leave.
No attachment, no memory and no reason to return.
The big mistake most projects make
is thinking "more events" will fix engagement.
But community events are not about doing more.
They’re about doing things with intention.
Because excitement and overwhelm live very close to each other.
Too many events back-to-back?
People mute the chat.
Too many activities at once?
Participation drops and people begin to feel less concerned
And one thing about engagement is that it does slowly in the noise
Every community event must answer one quiet question:
"Why the community member should care?"
≻ What’s the drive?
≻ What’s the purpose?
≻ What's the end result and how beneficial will it be to them?
If there’s no clear direction, engagement will always feel forced.
People don’t participate when they are asked to do so.
They participate when there’s meaning.
Now let’s talk about participation........
We all know how hard it is to get a bunch of people to engage on our posts daily.
A room can be full and still be dead.....
Just like we can have crazy numbers of followers and still have little to no engagement.
The difference is involvement.
When people are able to:
⇾ speak
⇾ create
⇾ vote
⇾ challenge
⇾ contribute
They stop feeling like spectators and start feeling like stakeholders.
And stakeholders don’t disappear quietly.
But here’s another hard truth:
Community events are not universal or general for all types of projects.
What works for one project can completely flop for another.
A DeFi community won’t engage like a GameFi community.
An NFT crowd won’t respond like an AI audience.
This is why planning matters.
You don’t design events based on trends.
You design them based on who you’re building with (your target audience).
Sometimes engagement can drop for a simpler reason as well.
Probably; the vibe is gone, no drama and all
Here is where events become more than updates.
Bringing up games, fun challenges, Casual conversations and creative moments.
Not everything has to be serious to be valuable.
Sometimes, events exist just to remind people the community is alive.
And yes, incentives matter.
And they can come in the form of roles, recognition and small rewards.
All this work, but here’s the danger:
When incentives become the only reason people show up, you don’t have engagement, you have transactions.....lol
Incentives should amplify interest,
not replace it.
The best communities would still show up
even if the reward disappeared.
At the end of the day, community events are simple.
They’re activities designed to spice up the community.
When planned with intention, they:
∘ create excitement
∘ encourage participation
∘ restore energy
∘ build connection
And once the connection is built, engagement stops being a struggle.
It becomes natural.
