Great research that supports evidence for the ‘nocebo effect’ related to our choice of language in the ICU. Great to see all the MDT involved with this study and even reflected an SLT specific example of the importance of semantics. journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…

What is really alarming and upsetting is to read a statement that centres the feelings of a white individual in a position of power, as opposed to acknowledging the valid anxieties and worries of many POC members, regardless of whether the following of a fascist was accidental

Lastly but possibly most importantly, every day I am lucky enough to work with the most incredible people, both patients and colleagues. And for the first time in my life I feel as though I genuinely fit in in a team.

Today was my last day as a B5 so I’m taking some time to reflect on the past 11 months!

Not just for SLTs but for all involved in working with people with dysphagia - GOs/Care Homes 'Service users should not be prescribed thickener for fluid without a detailed drinking and swallowing assessment by a dysphagia trained practitioner'. Seems obvious but it happens.

10) It’s not selfish to look after yourself first- doing so can help you to support patients better

9) This job is so meaningful that it’s easy to think about it a lot when not at work. Figure out what helps you switch off from work and do it as soon as you leave (e.g. for me it’s gym, but it could be going for a walk, watching tv, calling someone, whatever works)

Chatting to lots of NQPs & students at @st_links mentoring circuit really got me thinking about my own reflections of starting out as a band 5 (SLT in adult acute) 🏥 Here’s what I would tell my 2021 self (a thread):
