Remembering Mike Hailwood, good in cars & mighty on bikes, who died on his way to buy fish ’n’ chips #OnThisDay 45 years ago, aged 40, as a result of a road-car crash caused by a careless lorry driver, as did his daughter, aged 9. He’s one of motorsport’s all-time heroes.

@thespafixer He later played for Lincoln and was a member of the Graham Taylor 4th Division championship winning team of 1975-76, the season I saw him in an FA Cup tie at The Hawthorns.

John Snow seems to be England’s great forgotten strike bowler.
He played 49 Tests between 1965 and 1976, taking 202 wickets at an average of 26.66 and economy rate of 2.68.
In his 4 series against Australia, Snow was the leading England wicket-taker 3 times, and at home in 1968, he was 2nd.
EW Swanton wrote that he “had not seen an Englishman bowl either faster or better than Snow at Sydney since Tyson”.
Perhaps his career and achievements deserve a bit more recognition?

@mistertee1970 I also remember an emotional John Pratt after the final match at Southampton saying how proud he would be to tell his young son when he was older that he had done his bit for the Spurs. Pride? Playing for the shirt? We have lived in different times Mark.

I also remember Spurs in Division 2. Their 3-3 draw at Mansfield was on regional ITV and was quite a game. The players who took them down stayed to take them back up. It was another world.
