Last Wednesday, delegates from the National Conference of State Societies’ Cherry Blossom Program read to 200+ students at Randle Highlands Elementary School! 🌸👑

Last week, CBRE at the Wharf invited EWDC to join their buildings’ Cherry Blossom Parties so we could share info about our programs with their tenants! Thank you to CBRE for giving us the opportunity to connect with so many new and wonderful supporters!

Thursday, @CoBank’s DC office got together & processed 85 books for our students! This is just a small fraction of the books we've been able to give our students thanks to their generous grant of $10,000 to support book purchases! Thank you for all that you do for our students!

In anticipation of Read to Dream 2026 (May 7, Pearl Street Warehouse), we’re thrilled to announce we’re bringing back our Mentor of the Year award for the first time in five years to honor Power Readers mentor Molly Huie!

Thank you to all our volunteers for helping us celebrate Black History Month and teaching our students important lessons through the power of reading!

We hosted these special StoryTimes at JoAnn Leleck, Savoy, Thomson, and Van Ness Elementary Schools. To accompany the read-aloud, volunteers led an activity where children exercised their right to protest... by demanding more recess!

To celebrate Black History Month, EWDC hosted a series of StoryTimes featuring "Let the Children March," a historical fiction story set during the Birmingham Children's Crusade in 1963 that showcases how kids can make a difference in their communities.

Thank you to the Capitol Hill Community Foundation for awarding us with a $3k grant that supports Power Readers at JO Wilson, Chisholm, and Van Ness Elementary! Thanks to your generous support, more than 50 kids at our Capitol Hill partner schools have been matched with mentors.
