1⃣Cambrian #smallshellyfossils (SSF) are usually pieces of exoskeletons made by some of the first complex animals in the #fossil record. Many are ancient relatives of modern animals, but some remain “enigmatic”, their position on the #treeoflife still uncertain. #SSoS21

5⃣AND some Cambrian SSF had global distributions, so we can use them to reconstruct the position of ancient landmasses. A species I named Dailyatia decobruta (“handsome beast”) is found in Aus and Antarctica, evidence that these continents were joined in the Cambrian. #SSoS21

5⃣ /5🕵️‍♀️🔍 Within spectra of 14 quasars, I hunt for physical signatures of #hydrogen & #helium gas and compare them to results from specially-written code to work out gas behaviour and characteristics. 👩‍💻 It’s a tiny part of a supermassive enigmatic blackhole #puzzle. #SSoS21 💋

1⃣ 🌌 In the cores of #galaxies, HUGE #blackholes sip on a diet of gas, dust and stars from a circling accretion disk. 🥤 🤷‍♀️Where does it all go? No one knows... 🔐But this inner region seems to be key to understanding the evolution and dynamics of the whole galaxy. #SSoS21 💋

As a surf life saver I fortunately have access to the #CovidVaccine, so I’ve just booked myself in for my first dose 😁 Feeling very grateful and completely in awe of the science effort that has brought us to this point!
