my theory on the teaser it that the ant represents the fact that the new album is gonna EAT and the glowing fetus thing in his ear represents him being pregnant with aoty

seeing some new taemates (how nice is that) experience their first comeback is so heartwarming it took me back to mine yet the excitement never fades you truly never know what's coming next with him

Taemates and their genius Taemin will spend a new Thursday filled with only love, joy, amazing achievements and praises today as well 🧚🏻‍♀️👆🏻🫦

TAEMIN: 'THIS IS' INTERPRETATION 🐜 The clip starts with a clock ticking. A sudden ding reminiscent of a traditional alarm clock rings, then the countdown begins. Who set the timer? Who started the film? There is a surveillance camera, so someone other than Taemin and the ant (camera/us) knows what happened. There's also a door, the emergency exit light is on which means this building is functional, indicating the presence of an 'other' who may enter and leave as they wish. It could be the lighting but the door also seems slightly ajar... The countdown repeats '3, 2, 1' never reaching 0. Then we get a glimpse of Taemin. He looks dead, the carpet enveloping him like a casket. Eyes closed, no color to his skin, laying completely still. As we get closer there's a sound of a heartbeat - he's not dead? Suddenly, the only thing bearing color, light or any semblance of life is his ear. My first thought was that it looks like a fetus - Birth, rebirth, evolution, heartbeat. The juxtaposition of this image, with the reveal of the lyrics "This is the end", along with the countdown never ending, and Taemin's 'dead' body highlights an inner tension and irony. To truly begin again or to evolve, must you reject your past life, must you kill the old version and start again? Or is the 'new' you something that's nurtured and grown from within you? The lyrics lean towards the former. The visuals disagree. Once again, Taemin is showing that things are not black and white. There is a grey area that requires continuous and close attention. A never-ending countdown to the future but not knowing when it will stop (film strip). A longing to reinvent oneself but being stuck in the same body and mind (imagery of fetus in the ear). Surrounded by the gaze of others (surveillance camera, ant) and their constant expectations and demands (timer), yet being completely alone with nobody helping (trapped under the carpet). Who decides that "this is the end"? Who determines one's fate? Who determines one's essence of being? This feels like a bold venture from Taemin. I'm really excited to see more!

I can't stress enough how much I appreciate taemin's consistent use of philosophical and literary references in his art because they always feel purposeful and authentic not like an aesthetic choice which is unfortunately how it often looks to me when it comes to other artists
