There is an argument that the human race finishes up like the dinosaurs or that humans become the new bacteria. Regardless, it does seem very important to be able to fully assess the capabilities of AI as it is clear it has far reaching implications.

Instead, it seems there is an equilibrium where humans more or less understand (and get inspired) by the role other organisms play in the overall ecosystem. If AI were to dominate what role could humans play?

It is very hard to predict what AI is going to be. It is easy to be overwhelmed by the fact that the vast majority is convinced that AI is going to destroy labor but there is a lot of room for a middle ground between AGI and making AI useful for in the value chain.
