I don’t really see how Iran can “win” this war if it doesn’t get sanctions relief and I don’t really see how it can get sanctions relief if it doesn’t concede on at least 2 of 3 (nuclear, proxies, missiles). There’s obviously the whole if they survive they win thing but like…

I spoke to about a dozen Iranians to see what they think about the war. Here is what I found.

President Trump says that the regime has been changed in Iran and that the leaders in charge now are very different from the ones who were causing problems before. Trump added, “Let’s see how they turn out,” referring to the current crop of leaders in Iran. The president also said that the war has been won and that the only people who want to keep it going are “the fake news.” Finally, he said the current regime in Iran “gave us a present,” adding that it was related to oil and gas.

Genuine question what did we gain from this war except an even worse IR damaged infrastructures and more civilian lives lost ? Many anti war Iranians warned pro war Iranians trump was not looking for a regime change he was only looking for a deal. But we got called propagandists.

He said they offered him a prize related to oil and gas. Did he settled for kharg? What about uranium and missiles? So many questions no answers

@TedNoNumbers @History__Speaks @arash_tehran You have no way of telling. Unless we conduct a survey inside iran to find out. But if most of the Iranians hate the regime then a lot of them did welcomed US strikes. Even if 20-30 % ppl support it, that’s a substantial percentage of population

@Ex_muzzi @History__Speaks @arash_tehran Do not mix up Iranians in Iran who are against IR, and Iranians who are against IR and approve of Israel/US bombing Iran. One group is large [possibly/likely a majority of Iranian population, like 50-70%], the other is small.

@History__Speaks @TedNoNumbers @arash_tehran Iran has a very high percentage of young ppl. As I said, 44 percent are below 30. They are more open to westernisation and don’t relate ideologically with the Islamic revolution

Multiple Iranians claim that the majority doesn’t want Iranian regime to stay in power You may also be underestimating the number of westernised Iranians.

@TedNoNumbers @History__Speaks @arash_tehran If you look at pro regime rallies, you’ll notice one thing. Most ppl are middle aged. When you compare it with anti-regime protests, there’s a much higher number of Gen Z folks. It makes sense since Gen Z grew up much after 1979. 44% of Iranians are below 30 so make a guess

@TedNoNumbers @History__Speaks @arash_tehran I have went through a lotta profiles. From diaspora, to recent immigrants and ppl still located inside Iran, the pattern was obvious. Also it’s not really hard to gauge their political views just by having a mere glance at their appearance (esp true for women)

@History__Speaks @TedNoNumbers @arash_tehran You have no proof to claim that such ppl were in minority either. No one can really give you a glimpse into public opinion that captures the entirety of the population. What we can say for certain is that a lotta ppl did welcome US military intervention

To be fair he said most have turned on it. This is still a pertinent point because there is so much reporting to this effect. NBC and FT specifically reached out to Iranians who initially supported this - and these people obviously exist, though I think you and I agree they were a minority - and found they had turned on the war. I think they were propagandized by Iran International and Emily Schrader which is pretty sad honestly.
