@BamaHistory @msouthern17 @AlabamaMBB My junior year in high school. I was working at Foodland in my hometown of Linden that day, and in between bagging groceries, I remember stealing glimpses of the game on the 11-inch TV that the store owner set up near one of the registers so that we could keep up with the score.

Later this afternoon, @AlabamaMBB will receive its 27th invitation to the NCAA Tournament, continuing a journey that began 51 years ago today on March 15, 1975, when the Crimson Tide stepped onto the national stage for the first time. That day in Tempe, Ariz., an Alabama team coached by C.M. Newton made the program’s NCAA Tournament debut against Arizona State. The Crimson Tide battled valiantly but ultimately fell 97-94 in a high-scoring contest that still stands as one of the earliest memorable moments in program postseason history. Despite the loss, Alabama delivered an impressive performance. Leon Douglas dominated the paint with 29 points and 21 rebounds, showcasing the type of star power that helped carry the Tide to its first tournament appearance. T.R. Dunn added 21 points and seven rebounds, while Charles Cleveland contributed 18 points and 13 rebounds, giving Alabama three standout performances on the national stage. The game appeared to slip away early as Alabama trailed 55-36 at halftime, but the Crimson Tide refused to fold. UA mounted a spirited second-half comeback, cutting into the deficit and nearly pulling off the rally before falling just short in the closing minutes. While the result did not go Alabama’s way, the significance of that game has only grown with time. It marked the program’s first step into the NCAA Tournament, the beginning of a legacy that Newton helped establish and that future Alabama teams would continue to build upon. Now, 51 years later, Alabama is preparing to hear its name called once again. When the invitation arrives, it marks the 27th NCAA Tournament appearance for the Crimson Tide, a reminder of how far the program has come since that day in Tempe in 1975.

I asked the White House about Secretary Hegseth’s comment where he criticized reporting on US troop deaths, saying, “When a few drones get through or tragic things happen, it's front page news. I get it. the press only wants to make the president look bad, but try for once to report the reality.”

@ExcitableBob Man, this won’t seem right. There should be a special issue of Punch or City Scene to commemorate.

Great tribute @ExcitableBob al.com/life/2025/03/r… Miss the days of going into Sol's with Nadia always asking if I was ready for some dessert, "Just don't tell anyone I gave it to you for free." Jeff sitting there shaking his head, "of course, mom."
