Everyone across the Exeter City family is saddened to hear of the death of Pete Eveleigh. Pete, who was a well-known and popular member of staff with Exeter City Community Trust, passed away yesterday morning surrounded by family, following a diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in November 2022. We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to his wife Jess, their young son Oliver and all of Pete’s family and friends. Pete was the charity’s inclusion officer and through his work he developed programmes to engage with young people in the community. He showed a belief in young people, provided them with support and helped them to develop, both through the charity’s educational programmes and the Premier League Kicks session which he delivered. Following his diagnosis, he, his family and friends worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the devastating impact of MND. He was awarded the Premier League’s Community Captain award in March 2024 in recognition of his work for both Exeter City and in raising awareness of MND. Danny Harris, head of services at Exeter City Community Trust, said: “Pete was a true friend to so many of us and we are devastated to hear of his loss. Pete was one of life’s good guys and it is tragic that his life should be cut short by this dreadful disease. He showed bravery in the fight and his legacy will live on. Our love and thoughts go out to Jess and Oliver and his friends and family.” To find out more about the work of Pete, Jess and their friends in raising awareness for those with MND, visit mindovermnd.co.uk

Inspiring the next generation through the power of football and learning! Nearly 400 children from schools across Devon have taken part in our @premierleague Primary Stars sessions over the last year, helping them become more active, confident and motivated in the classroom and beyond. From fun, educational lessons linked to sport, to exciting tournaments and competitions, the programme supports young people to build important life skills like teamwork, resilience, confidence and fair play. We're pleased to announce that the King George V Playing Fields project is underway. The site is being developed through local and national partnerships to improve and enhance one of our city’s much-loved green spaces for the use of current and future generations. The works include a new 3G pitch, two PlayZones and refurbished changing rooms with accessible facilities. Around 65 new trees will also be planted to create a community orchard. Young people at risk of crime and disengagement from school are being supported to change their futures through the Change Our Path Programme at Exeter City Community Trust. Since September, 50 young people have been referred for support - with real results already. This term, two participants who were previously not in education, employment or training have returned to full-time education and are thriving. A unique part of the programme sees players from @OfficialECFC, including Ilmari Niskanen, mentoring young people and helping to build confidence, self-belief and positive life choices. Funded through the Players’ Project Pilot by the @premierleague and the @PFA, with support from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall, the programme is helping young people develop confidence, resilience and brighter futures. Project lead, Angela McBrayne said: “It’s been wonderful to see the progress made. Young people are motivated, rebuilding confidence and setting themselves on the path to a brighter future.” If you would like to learn more about the Change Our Path programme, please visit exetercct.org
