Why are people still playing Mixtape? It's 2 hours long and has no gameplay. I expected people to reach the ending and then move on

@Slumdog_Milly @inkblotPrincess With also almost every area either presenting you with new enemies or making the focus on previously rare encounters. It's silly to complain about a group of enemies repeating when the game isn't holding back on presenting you with new ones right alongside

The problem with talking about Elden Ring on here is that if you don't over-clarify everything like you're talking to a toddler you'll get people who can't distinguish between open-world encounters and Margit, the Fell Omen in discussing how Torrent makes you engage w the world

All they're saying is that there's no incentive to engage with the vast majority of the random mobs in ER's open world. They aren't direct threats standing in your path like in linear levels, the runes they provide are low compared to other means, and the loot they give is rarely worthwhile with extremely low drop rates even when it sometimes is. This is perfectly reasonable, understandable, and also just correct

@inkblotPrincess As someone thats seen your posts pop up for the past few days, it doesn't seem to be *just* a lack of clarity on your end. You've been, seemingly purposefully, reductive to the point of coming across as disingenuous

@TheLeon117 They aren't, unless you are misinformed and ignore all their flaws And I'm yet to hear a coherent explanation for why any souls game is better than a game like Monster Hunter World Iceborne since most souls fans didn't even play it and if they did, they didn't get past Anjanath

The reason people think Fromsoftware and Rockstar games are the best games in the world and 10/10 masterpieces is because they haven't tried any better games It's like someone who has only eaten fast food, claiming that McDonald's is the best restaurant in the world. They haven't tried better restaurants, so their inexperience makes them believe that McDonald's is the best one

"Gear" - Drop rates are extremely low so unlikely, and most gear dropped by mobs is not great. Very few exceptions like Bloodfiend's Arm and Fire Knight's Greatsword "Levels" mobs give a low amount of runes. There are much faster and easier ways of earning runes (finding bosses which give better rewards and more runes, farming a specific enemy which gives lots more runes at a faster rate like the giants in Limgrave) "Materials" - Like? Useless crafting materials, and in rare instances low tier smithing stones if you're lucky. You can get an abundance of that elsewhere "Immediately rushing to Margit rewards you with an ass beating" not if you bother to learn the fight. But nobody said exploration is not encouraged. Their argument is that killing enemies in the open world is largely pointless, which is true. Exploration does not require you to kill enemies. Even at camps, you can pick up all the loot without actually clearing out the camp. I only do it when I'm bored or specifically want to farm their armor/sword (which takes ages due to low drop rates) There is more incentive to fight enemies in linear levels because they're actually in your way and intervene. Tighter spaces and no torrent makes them a larger threat if you don't deal with them

Clearing the area rewards you with gear, levels, materials, side quests and the joy of exploring the world. Immediately rushing to Margit rewards you with an ass beating. Imo that‘s the real lesson, the path is straightforward but you will have to take detours if you wanna win.

Directly next to where most people will access Torrent for the first time is a giant doorway that leads up to Margit wherein the game imparts the lesson that much of the overworld is best skipped, especially given that slowly clearing this area out does not reward you at all

It's just the objective truth that there is no incentive to fight the majority of enemies in the open world The loot you find is valuable (sometimes) but clearing out enemies is not required to grab loot. I run up to a camp, grab all the loot and dip out without killing anyone. The mini-boses are valuable since they give a decent amount of runes and have a better chance of giving good rewards like talismans. But fighting random trash mobs populating the world is largely pointless

This feels like a bad faith argument, but whatever. The intention is to obviously show players that the rest of the world *is* valuable, because if you go straight to Margit... you'll get your ass kicked. Engaging with the world will then help to prevent subsequent ass kickings.

@OMARFASO So can you explain how they're wrong, or unreasonably, or anything? Having no incentive or reward for engaging with most enemies in an open world filled with mostly enemies is valid criticism

@ImpulseOnyx Where was it implied that they ran past things they couldn't beat? I run past most mobs in ER's open world because there's no incentive to fight them, unless they are standing right on top of loot you intend to pick up, then maybe

@Omar15642112 Gambling is popular. I guess gambling is beloved and good by that logic, since it hooks people And again, modern CoDs get slapped with negative/mixed ratings yet remain popular. That shouldn't be the case according to you

Yes it can become more fun with time and learning. Every weapon has a different playstyle which changes how you approach the fight and they each have their own movesets/functions which take time to learn properly. If you're using a weapon that doesn't suit you or you don't know the moveset of then the combat isn't gonna be fun. Also, the first monster is basic and boring compared to later ones. The combat is more fun when you're fighting a good boss, not tutorial fodder Grinding for endgame gear requires you to actually reach endgame first. You don't need to grind when you're just getting through the game Up to you if you want to give the game a proper shot some day

@ExoGhost Right because the combat wasn’t going to magically become more fun over time. That plus the grind for endgame gear sealed it for me. I can see that it’s a well made game though.
