The EU notes reports that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been transferred to house arrest. We call for full respect of her physical and mental wellbeing, regular access to family and legal counsel, and reiterate our demand for her full release and of all remaining political prisoners.

Andrzej Poczobut is finally free! A journalist and laureate of the Sakharov Prize, his case symbolised the broader repression in Belarus. While we welcome his release, we call for the immediate and unconditional release of all those still unjustly imprisoned in Belarus.

Japan: We note positively 🇯🇵's approach to review the Three Principles on Transfer of Defence Equipment and Technologies. Under the 🇪🇺🇯🇵 Security and Defence Partnership, we aim at enhancing defence cooperation and our broader cooperation.

Deadlock over. The EU just cleared the way for the €90-billion-loan for Ukraine and the 20th sanctions package. Russia’s war economy is under growing strain, while Ukraine is getting a major boost. We will provide Ukraine what it needs to hold its ground, until Putin understands his war leads nowhere.

Russia has committed many horrific crimes in its war against Ukraine, but the abduction of Ukrainian children stands among the gravest. Thousands of children have been taken. Every single one of them must be returned. On 11 May in Brussels, @andrii_sybiha, @AnitaAnandMP, @MartaKosEU and I will host the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children. Our objective is to bring them home and hold those responsible accountable.

Myanmar: The 🇪🇺 welcomes the announcement of the release of U Win Myint and other political prisoners, and the commutation of several death sentences. We continue to demand the unconditional release of all arbitrarily detained persons, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

DPRK: Yesterday’s launch of ballistic missiles violates UN Security Council resolutions, raises tensions and threatens regional peace and security. The EU urges the DPRK to return to diplomacy and refrain from further escalation.

Russia once again deliberately targeted and killed Ukrainian civilians last night. With its army stalled on the battlefield, Moscow keeps falling back on terror against the innocent. Russia wants more war, so our response is more aid for Ukraine, more pressure on Russia, and full accountability for war crimes. Europe steps up. In recent days, Germany and Ukraine struck a €4 billion arms deal, the UK announced its biggest-ever drone package, and the Netherlands pledged €200 million, among other pledges. On the EU side, it is high time to unblock the €90-billion loan and move forward with the 20th sanctions package. The Foreign Affairs Council will take this up next week.

Belarus: The decision to designate the European Humanities University as an “extremist organisation” is another example of the regime’s efforts to dismantle civic space. We reaffirm our full support for the University, its students, faculty & alumni. link.europa.eu/Xr8cwg

DPRK: The launch of multiple ballistic missiles raises military tensions, jeopardises regional security and violates UN Security Council resolutions. We urge the DPRK to comply with its international obligations and return to diplomacy.

Thank you @YvetteCooperMP for convening a call of over 40 countries on the Strait of Hormuz. This waterway is a global public good. Iran cannot be allowed to charge countries a bounty to let ships pass. International law doesn’t recognise pay-to-pass schemes. Today, we looked at diplomatic, economic, and security measures to restore safe passage, alongside working with the shipping industry. The EU’s Aspides naval mission has already assisted 1,700 ships in the Red Sea and must be scaled up. We cannot afford to lose another critical trade route. We support work by the UN on humanitarian corridors in the Strait to get food and fertilisers out. The EU has tools to track and facilitate transit that could help with that.

Bucha has come to symbolise the cruelty of Russia’s war. Of the civilians killed, many were shot at close range. Some with their hands tied behind their backs. Four years after these mass killings, we remember the victims. What happened here cannot be denied. The EU is committed to ensuring that these crimes do not go unpunished, including by supporting the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression, alongside the Claims Commission. Russia must be held accountable for what it has done to Ukraine.

It is good to be in Kyiv today with European Foreign Ministers. Each visit is a powerful reminder of Ukraine’s courage and resilience. Europe stands by your side. We will keep providing military, financial, energy, and humanitarian support. And we will do everything we can to ensure full accountability for Russia’s crimes.

We’ll come determined and united in our support of Ukraine, especially as we commemorate four years since Russia’s horrific atrocities in Bucha. The release of 250 political prisoners in Belarus is a welcome and tangible step forward. I thank the United States for brokering this deal. For many families, this is a moment of long-awaited relief and a chance to reunite with their loved ones. We can't overlook that these individuals should never have been imprisoned in the first place. All those still unjustly detained in Belarus must be freed, and repression must end.

Afghanistan-Pakistan: the EU welcomes the suspension of hostilities announced on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. We call on both parties to adhere scrupulously to this commitment.
