Remembering Piero Carini, killed during a sports car race near Saint-Étienne #OnThisDay in 1957, he was 36. Carini raced Ferraris in three Grand Prix during the 1952 and 1953 seasons. In sports cars, he was a class winner at the 1954 Mille Miglia and the 1955 Targa Florio. #F1

The 2020 motorsport year would see Zhou Guanyu claim the F3 Asia Championship. Later that year, he would seal runners-up spot in the FIA F2 Championship, winning four races. 2/3 #OnThisDay

Happy Birthday to Cadillac F1 reserve driver Zhou Guanyu, 27 today. China's first F1 driver, Guanyu drove for Alfa Romeo and Kick Sauber, starting 68 Grand Prix between 2022 and 2024. His best race results were 8th places at the 2022 Canadian and 2024 Qatar Grand Prix. 1/3

After his brief F1 stint ended, Gianmaria Bruni had an excellent career in GTs, winning the Drivers' Title in the 2013 & 2014 WEC. Other titles included the 2008 FIA GT, 2011 LMS and 2012 International GT Open. He is a three-time GT class winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. 2/3

Happy Birthday to Italian ex-F1 driver Gianmaria Bruni, 45. Having tested for Minardi during 2003, Bruni joined the team to contest the 2004 F1 season. It would be a tough year in an uncompetitive car & Bruni's best results, from 18 starts, we're three 14th place finishes. 1/3

Happy 62nd birthday to retired Italian racing driver Andrea Montermini. A race winner in Italian F3 & International F3000, Montermini took the plunge entering F1 with Pacific (1995), then Forti (1996). From 20 starts, Montermini's best result was 8th at Hockenheim in '95. 1/3

Dieter Quester, 3rd in the 1971 European F2 Championship. He won the overall European Touring Car Championship in 1977 and 1983. Other victories included the Spa 24 Hours (1973, 1986, 1988) and the 1976 Nürburgring 1000 km. 2/3 #OnThisDay

Happy 87th birthday to retired Austrian racing driver Dieter Quester. Quester made a single Grand Prix start, finishing a solid 9th in a Surtees at the 1974 Austrian Grand Prix. He would enjoy a lengthy career in touring cars and endurance racing. 1/3 © Getty Images #F1

Remembering Tom Jones, who died aged 72 #OnThisDay in 2015. A US Formula A entrant, Jones entered his own Cooper-Climax for the 1967 Canadian Grand Prix, but failed to qualify due to an electrical problem. He continued to race in US F5000 & occasionally Can-Am. #F1

Remembering Johnny Servoz-Gavin, who died aged 64 #OTD in 2006. French F3 champion in 1966, European F2 champion in 1969. Servoz-Gavin drove for Matra, Cooper & Tyrrell in 11 GPs (1967-1970), finishing 2nd at Monza in 1968. An eye injury led to his early retirement from racing.

Happy 63rd birthday to Japanese former racing driver Ukyo Katayama. Katayama raced for Larrousse, Tyrrell and Minardi in 95 Grand Prix between 1992 and 1997. He finished in the points three times, including 5th places at the 1994 Brazilian and San Marino Grand Prix. 1/3 #F1
