In 2023 McLaren often struggled to make it out of Q1. It may seem like a bigger disappointment because of where McLaren was last year but this is no way worse than the start of 2023.

McLaren's start to #F1 2026 feels very similar to 2023...perhaps even worse? The MCL40 is a fussy beast. It and Ferrari's "tomato rules" with Lewis/Charles, Haas nailing the #Formula1 season AND Aston Martin completing more race laps than McL just adds to the pain. #FormulaOne

Lando chose to drive with the #1 as a thank you to his mechanics and an acknowledgment of all the hard work that went into winning the championship last year. It’s the reward for years of hard work and dedication. It doesn’t matter where he is on the grid this year it doesn’t take away what he did last year. He is still the reigning world champion.

Funny how you care more about someone calling out the unfair hate and criticism Lando received last year than the actual hate that happened. The fact that you think me pointing out double standards is hate towards Oscar. As I said previously I’m not asking for Oscar to receive more hate, I’m making people realise how unfairly Lando was criticised.

@verxtappen 8/9 of those results were driven in the same car as Lando’s 9 results and the 9th race was a crash on the way to the grid which has nothing to do with how fast the car is.
