Jakarta has real problems worth solving. Let’s build something useful for them 🇮🇩 As part of OpenAI Build Week, I’m excited to host the OpenAI Build Week Community Hackathon Jakarta—a one-day sprint for builders who want to turn local insights into working products with Codex. The theme is an open track, so you can choose any problem you care about—from public services, MSMEs, and education to healthcare, tourism, climate, accessibility, or something entirely different. We’re looking for practical AI products with a clear user, a useful workflow, and a working demo people can understand and test. Responsible and inclusive use of AI also matters. This is an individual hackathon, limited to 35 participants. Engineers, designers, founders, students, researchers, operators, educators, and domain experts are all welcome. You don’t need to arrive with a finished idea—just come ready to choose a problem and build. 📅 Saturday, 18 July 2026 ⏰ 09:00 AM–3:00 PM 📍 Hellolive, Centennial Tower Level 29, Jakarta 🏆 Prizes: 🥇 USD 5,000 in Codex credits 🥈 USD 2,500 in Codex credits 🥉 USD 1,000 in Codex credits Ready to build something useful for Indonesia? abis archiving beberapa file terus nemu hasil foto analog sekitar tahun 2017-2020, kayaknya bakal ku share di sini nanti. inget banget dulu beli kamera Yashica Zoomate 80 cuma 50K, harga roll film masih sekitar 35-50K. ada yang pernah main analog photography juga nggak?

“Daily driver” is the part that matters most to me. A model can be smart, but if it is expensive or creates too much cleanup, engineers will only use it for special cases. The best AI coding tools are the ones you can use repeatedly for normal work: debugging, refactor review, edge cases, test fixes, and architecture tradeoffs.

This is actually a real workflow thing. When a model feels “too expensive to waste”, you subconsciously reserve it for polished prompts or final passes. A cheaper strong model lets you do the messy engineering loops: bad ideas, quick checks, alternative implementations, edge cases, asking “is this dumb?” before writing code. That freedom to experiment might be the bigger productivity gain.

Finally, public access for GPT-5.6. The most exciting part for builders is simple: better models mean we can build better apps faster. More reliable coding, stronger reasoning, better agent workflows, and hopefully fewer hours wasted fighting the model instead of shipping the product. If Sol, Terra, and Luna are actually usable at scale, this can speed up real software development, not just make better demos. I’m especially curious how much faster frontend, debugging, product iteration, and agentic coding workflows become once people can test it in daily work.

Agree. This feels less like one model replacing another and more like a new baseline where serious builders use Claude and GPT together. Fable may still win in some reasoning or coding taste areas. GPT-5.6 can still become more useful if it is cheaper, faster, has better limits, or fits agent workflows better. The winner for daily work is not always the smartest model. It is the model combination that gives the best speed, cost, reliability, and iteration loop.

This is the part people underrate in early access: transparency matters almost as much as raw benchmark quality. Builders can handle “wait until Thursday” or “this part is not ready yet” if the boundary is clear. What kills trust is vague restriction, unclear comms, or pretending everything is normal when partners are already blocked. Good model + clear developer relationship is a much better launch surface.

This is the dangerous feedback loop. The US treats frontier models like export-controlled infrastructure because it worries about cyber, military, and intelligence use. China sees that and has two incentives: protect its own frontier models, and prevent Chinese AI companies from becoming strategic assets controlled through foreign capital or overseas offices. Once one side normalizes “model access is national security,” the other side has a strong reason to mirror it. The irony is that both countries still need openness to win developer adoption. Cheap Chinese models became powerful partly because they were easy to try, benchmark, and build with. If the best models become too restricted, the ecosystem shifts toward whatever is good enough, available, and politically stable. That may be the real opening for open-weight middle-tier models.

This is interesting because Cursor has real workflow data from developers, not just static coding benchmarks. A good coding model is not only about writing code. It needs to understand when to search, when to ask, when to preserve existing patterns, when to run tests, and when to stop. That behavior is what makes AI useful inside real software engineering work.
