We’re pleased to share this announcemncement from Protein Industries Canada. This project focuses on an important challenge for Canadian agriculture, which is how to build a more modern and coordinated approach to risk management. Public Business Risk Management programs remain an important foundation for farms. The opportunity is to better connect those programs with private insurance capacity, data, analytics, and technology so farmers have more choice, more individualized protection, and clearer options. That is especially important as farms face more volatility, tighter margins, and increasingly complex decisions. When risk protection is limited, fragmented, or difficult to understand, it becomes harder for farms to plan with confidence. That can affect investment, adoption of new practices, productivity improvements, and long-term competitiveness. Through this project, Agi3, Agi3 Risk Services, and Aon Re Canada will work on an AI-enabled public-private framework for crop insurance. Part of the work will be to explore how this model can be tested with real farms and real data, with public BRM programs forming the core foundation and private insurance helping fill gaps at the performance layer. Agi3’s technology platform was built for this kind of challenge, with patented and patent-pending field-level analytics, individualized risk modelling, dynamic product design, and AI-enabled decision-support tools that can help make agricultural insurance more tailored, practical, and coordinated. Canada has an opportunity to build better risk management infrastructure for agriculture - one that supports farm resilience, productivity, and competitiveness. Building on our previously published FARM framework for canola yield prediction across the Canadian Prairies, work that was recently featured by @IBM Research, this paper focuses on a critical challenge in applied AI: keeping agricultural models reliable as real-world conditions change. AgriInsurance is a strong foundation. 🌾 But heading into 2026, with lower commodity prices, coverage per acre is down (even if premiums are down too). That can leave more of the working layer exposed.
